    Posted: 29 June 2009 at 11:51pm
Fired a Garand for the first time today, a WWII original to boot(used on Omaha beach I was told). Jesus Christ,  this thing was so wunderbar awesome in every aspect, I  can't describe it. I want to urge everyone who's never fired one to try and attain some way of firing one..  It kicks so perfect, and explodes things so well, I'd have been less satisfied if I had somehow gained some awesome super power that'd let me insta-project exploding-lazerbeams with....maybe thoughts.... something tight, that's for sure... but anyways... man, that thing is a thumb-choppingWink bundle of joy. Me and my buddy(it's his dad's gun, we knew nothing about it, except video game/wikipedia knowledge...Embarrassed) had some trouble at first(silly jam, our fault probably) but we wriggled that clip out, realigned the rounds(and had to replace some sheisty looking rounds that had cracks... his dad's refilling of the ammo I guess?) popped in the clip, had to jiggle the op-rod(I think?) forward for it to clack forward but when we got that thing loaded it was the most joy I've had ever. Just give the trigger a gently hug and *BAM!*, it's addiction. Now, me wonders where to aquire a cheap one(probably unlikely?). Sorry, I don't like to bug ya'll with half-assed rants but otherwise my friends and ma'll have to hear this maybe half-interesting, jibber-jabber, rant for the next month.Confused

P.S. a chinese AK was fired too.... I was unimpressed, honestly, it jammed frequently and seemed harder to control than the Garand... I'm a little guy if that matters,  5'10, 155 lbs.. I could see it being something we did though, but then maybe it could be that it was of Chinese manufacture. I also gave my Browning A5 some love, boy that thing wrecks something fierce.

......bye!

If I were using a gun that I had to jiggle things into place/ around to get it to fire after several failed attempts, I don't think I'd try to fire it again.

You can still pick them up for relatively good prices through the Civilian Marksmanship Program can't you?

You need to open the Hell Door and go try to get a ray gun from the chest, it's 2009.

It sounds like the rounds were not seated int he enbloc properly.  If the bolt did not go home after you place the enbloc down into the well, then give it a slap forward on the op rod/charging handle. http://www.thegca.org/
This should get you started on making the rifle more enjoyble to shoot.  BTW, stay away from soft nose ammunition, M1's are a bit stubborn when cycling soft nose.

My dad has 4 garands, I have yet to fire any of them.

Now the M1A, thats a favorite.

My dad and mom got the garands through the marksmanship program. They both qualified.

Springfiled. Match Grade I believe. It was quite pricey, he bought it a while ago though.

He uses it to shoot prairie dogs when he goes hunting(not much of a hunt) in S. Dakota each year.
He has a great stock for it, but he wanted to put a really nice bipod on it, so he bought some "Cheaper than Dirt" stocks and drilled that. Im happy he did that.

Its his pride and joy. When we do go to the range, theres no question if he will be bringing that along. Idk, its nice to shoot and everything, but I like the AR15s more.

Me = jealous. I would love to shoot a Garand.

Tallen, are you in the CMP? I would really like to know more about it, but I don't know anyone who's a memeber.

You can go to a local sports club, join and shoot in atleast 2 of their matches and you qualify to buy an Garand from the CMP or you can join the M1 Garand collectors assoc.
I think they are still letting you get one through the CMP if you join them.

Exactly our problems.

Thanks alot! Yep, we just had to re-seat them in the "enbloc" (that's the technical word for clip I guess?), The need to slap the charging handle also became apparent in our venture to master this new fire making-tool. I felt so derned cavemanish, an old deer rib was considered at one point to extract the stuck round, but as it was a war relic I resisted the urge.

I would, but I've got my hands full with the wunderwaffe DG-2....
Gawl, I really wish I could find the ray gun on the new zombie map... the DG-2 doesn't have that awesome "*BLYEAOW*! *BLYEAOW* *BLYEAOW*! *BLYEAOW*!" thing goin' on to let those bushido-crazed flesh eaters know what's up.
