I want anyone's opinion on this subject, unless you just talk smack without understanding what your saying.
Personally I prefer a Spyder, but I like Tippman. I like the fact that every part from a Spyder is interchangeable with another Spyder Gun. And Tippmans require very little cleaning. I myself own a Spyder SE, they stopped production in 2000 so my gun is ancient. I clean it after every use and enjoy its accuracy and dependability. |

Your definition of "ancient" is a bit lacking. I myself have owned several guns from the 80's. :)
As for which do I prefer? To go out and use and abuse, I'd go for the Tippies any day. However, as a tinkerer and modder, I LOVE Spyders. Their platform is so bloody generic you can do anything to them. I need to pick up a Spyder again, but I just don't have the money to blow on paintball guns anymore. It's not like my current 10 or so are enough... |

That one's on my list of guns I'd like to own. Guns I've owned from the 80's: NSG Splatmaster (getting custom internals), pre 2K PGP (with Sergison K-Frame), PMI-II (Cooper-T bolt, polished finish, wood grips), Sheridan KP-II DF (SHOULDN'T HAVE SOLD THIS SHOULDN'T HAVE SOLD THIS).
I still own the Splatty and PGP. I was debating including my original Sniper II, but it's a 1990, so meh. I figure it's "old-skool" enough to qualify.

I kind of wish I hadn't sold the Stingray (not Stingray II) that I had pimped out.

Whoops, I forgot to mention my SL-68 II's. I had two of them. My very first paintall gun ever was an SL-68 II. I sold it for $15. I know, I know. I was young and dumb...
I still have the second one, but I tore it up with a file and it won't reach velocity. I don't feel like jacking with it any more. I want to get another bone stock one and just use it. No cutting or anything. Just for nostalgia. Edited by DeTrevni - 14 July 2009 at 8:23pm |

well if your asking me... I have had a couple of spyders. The TL,VS3 the e-99 and some others and I couldnt count on them. I have several 98s, prolites,sl68II and 68 specials and I can almost ignore them and they will be fine. I did try the c3 and that did SUCK but tippmann did do right by man so as a company they are great. But if you want more of a solid durable low maintaince type go with a tippy if you want more of a speedball type try a DP g3 they cost a bit more but they are great little tourney markers

For oldschool... I own a 68 Special, two SL's(one in mint condition, stickers intact), a Crosman 357 that I plan on converting to a 3357, and a Mag :)
I'll take a Tippmann, because Spyders are just too low quality. If Kingman produced them in the USA still with good manufacturing techniques, I could see them being excellent markers. I've just seen too many things go wrong and too much time fixing the things for other people. |
