So, I have a bit of a rant. What's up with the NFL's challenge system? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the point of a challenge to correct a perceived wrong call by the refs?

What's the point of having a challenge system if you can't potentially challenge every call? Why can some calls be challenged, such as a fumble, but other calls cannot? A few weeks ago I remember watching a play where a player ran in for a touchdown, but it was called back for the player being "out of bounds", but when the replay was shown, he obviously had not gone out of bounds, yet it could not be challenged.

I'm not saying unlimited challenges... still have the 2 a game limit, but give more leeway in it.

Either have a challenge system or don't.

They need to allow the challenge of flags because some of them are getting ridiculous.

And you can't challenge something if it happens after the play is called dead, no matter what happens. But the refs do face penalties for really bad calls, so its not like they get away scott free for ruining ga,es.

Yep. Linus, you underestimate how tedious football would become (beyond its current state) if challenges were loosened up to allow calls after the play was dead.

If every play was allowed to be challenged, each game would take 12 hrs minimum to complete.

You obviously missed what I said, so I'll post it again.

Not at all. As I'm arguing, the whole point OF challenges is to fix a wrong, and that could mean a play being called dead when it shouldn't have, especially if it is a potentially game changing play such as the one I outlined from last week (I believe it was the Cowboys game?)

Within reason of course... not a play continuing after it's been called dead due to false start.

Maybe have a different look at out of bounds calls?

I personally like the NHL system. If a goal needs to be reviewed, they make the decision at the League Office, in Toronto. No little monitor on the side of the field. Instead a team of people make the decision and call it in.

The thing is, when a play is called dead, the players stop playing. If someone walks into the endzone, how is that fair if the other team stopped pursuing the ball?
