98 C Rental Overhaul

I Recently bought a VERY used 98C rental marker for 30 bucks. It works fine. My only problem was the range on the gun was very poor after about 30-40 yards the balls fell and looked slow. I chrono'd at 220, which seems pretty low. I was also using a 68/4500 (if that makes any diff).

Is this normal? If not what can I do to upgrade/fix?

I beleive that is what he is trying to acheive, thus the suggestion from Tinman to replace the main drive spring.  I'll add that while you have the marker open, take it completely apart and use a good degreaser to really clean the shell halves. Wash them really well, let dry and lay a few coats of primer and paint on to freshen it up. Typically rental 98's are beaten to heck and back. A $3.00 can of paint goes a long ways to making it look better.

Thanks for everyone's input, this is the story of the overhaul thus far.

When I first bought it all the paint was chipping off



Then I used an exact-o knife to scrape it all off, lol which took 4ever! ( I took a close up of my safety because its all corroded and loose so I bought a new one)



Today I did the brillo pad method to polish my internals. Then dropped off the gun with my brother in-law to sandblast and paint it for FREE!




If you cant tell Im super proud to be a Tippmann owner (finally) even if it is an ex-rental lol.
