    Posted: 12 April 2010 at 1:00am
I have two 98s, one old one(not sure how old) and one platinum.  The old I now use for guests, however it has been acting up.  It has a cyclone feed and use to have a response.  I took the response out thinking that may have been the problem, it solved most of the chopping, however the gun still occasionally double shoots. I then replaced all the springs and O-rings and it still double shoots.  I am kinda confused was wondering if any of you could help.

Thanks.

Try replacing the rubber detent.

By "double-shooting" do you mean two balls with one shot or two actual firing cycles with what is supposed to be one pull of the trigger?

Sorry, I mean two actual firing cycles.  The detent is fine.  So when the trigger is pulled, the gun fires twice rapidly, but only sometimes.  Sometimes this causes it to chop, which is a pain(as we all know).  I took out all after-market stuff and mods, as it is only my guest gun and I just want it to be reliable and easy to use.  It does still have the cyclone however, but I am 99% sure that that is not the problem.

Because you said it was old, and because of the problem described, I would recommend checking the sear and the rear bolt for signs of wear. If either are worn the bolt may not catch correctly on the sear resulting in two or more rapid shots with only one trigger pull.

is your sear worn out? how about your bolt where the sear catches the bolt.

and if you call tippmann they are really good about trying to figure out whats wrong

Did you by chance mix up the trigger spring and sear spring?

Ok, just compared the sear to my relatively new 98 sear.  It was definitely the sear, it looks like someone beat it consecutively with a sledge hammer. . . which is not too far off from the truth.

Thanks

You might be able to grind the edge back to shape with a dremel to make it work again.  (It's either that or replace it so you really have nothing to lose.)
