Box came today, I couldn't get into it fast enough.
A couple of things jumped out at me as soon as I started to handle the thing and look it over. 1. Every marker that Tippmann has produced since I've started playing has boasted being 'rugged and durable' They have been too, but right off the bat, this thing just FEELS so solid. Its not heavy nor cumbersome, but does it ever have the general feeling of being indestructible. I feel like I could put it the hands of the most accident prone beginner, and have it come back in complete working order. 2. Its reminiscence of the old carbine line brings me great joy. Until recently, my primary marker had been a 68 carbine, despite owning more updated markers. The carbine like feel of this is something that I cannot say enough good things about. 3. The simplicity. Tippmann aimed at the beginner level for this marker, and hit the bulls eye. There's nothing fancy about it, the simplicity of design seems to be paying homage to the old 98. No fills, no whistles, all business. Anyone can pick it up and play with it. 4. The new elbow system. the screw bolt that holds the new elbow in might be the most complicated thing about this marker- but its not a bad thing. While I never had a problem at all with the old elbow system on the 98/AB line, Its nice to see a new spin on an old classic. Any wobble that one might have had with the old system is completely gone. Its quite nearly as solid fit as the built in elbow on the SL-68 II, yet since its still removable access to the chamber in case of a break is still feasible. Love the new design. It won't be as easy to clean in the field, since it takes just a bit longer to unscrew the bolt before removal, but I like it a lot. 5. Its so aesthetically pleasing too. Its got great lines, there's nothing awkward or clumsy about the receivers either. 6. The integrated sights I'm not too wild about since most players either don't use them at all or will add their own in the form of a sighting system or raised rail, but They're not gawky enough to be an issue. 7. Rails....enough to be useful, yet not so many as to give the marker the milsim feel of the X7 or Project Salvo. The familiar simplicity of this one makes it a huge winner in my book. I immediately bolted on the stock from my Alpha Black Tactical, and love the way it looks and feels in my hands. A barrel that is a touch longer would be nice, though not altogether necessary. I tried a 14" J&J on it, but its too thin a barrel and too long for it to even look nice. I don't know how much of a fan I am of the thickness of the 98 threaded barrels lately, (AB, Salvo, Carver) it makes using one's existing after market barrels tough since they are so thin they wiggle loosely around inside the shrouds. I got my Carver One and the first Impression was, this is a Hunk of Metal. The Carver One has the feel of the ProAm and ProLites of old. I went last Saturday the weather was drizzly and cool. The air was Misty and since I was buying the paint to play, it was a Limited Paint 200 rds per game. The Game was a simple game of Elimination in some early New England spring woods. I used the Carver one with my Limited Paint Set up. I had a old BE 45rd Hopper and my 4oz tank on the Gun. I like the new ASA with Sling mounting point. It even has a safety exhaust vent hole on the ASA so the escaping air wont eat your Tank O Ring a very New Player friendly option.
The Stock Barrel is like the new Tippmann Stock Barrels they are Ported and Finished unlike the old model 98 Barrels. I also used an Apex Barrel for a later game with a Friend who has yet to develop that Move In Close and Eliminate your Opponent instinct. The CARVER ONE's Rails are Molded thick and Perhaps the Strongest Attachment points I ever seen on a Paintball Gun. I also added the Stock from my Sierra One another Marker that I am really fond of. Performance out the Box the Marker Chronoed at 260. A few twists of the Velocity Adjustment screw and it was up to the 280 FPS that I limit my Outlaw Ball to. The Guts of the CARVER ONE are the Time and Battle Tested 98 Internals and they lived up to their Heritage of Reliability and Simplicity. Even with the Sporadic showers and drizzle the CARVER ONE fired true each time. Here is some Eye Candy, I really like the Look of the APEX there, thou I need a LAPCO Bigshot Apex ready Barrel. I don't think the stock Apex barrel could be any crappier. Due to the Rain I wasn't able to get any in action pics, iPhone's camera sucks in low light and I didn't want to get it shot or Wet. |

Not a review; my apologies.
They really need to come out with a Beretta Storm stock for this marker. |

he's talking about the Apex stock barrel, the one it comes with sucks, he's not talking about the stock barrel, but usually with a tippmann you have to change the barrel anyways, but thats just how i feel

My experience with the Carver One is a bad one. Mine had a factory defect of an air leak where the power tube and braided line connect. Nothing I did would stop it: thread seal and teflon tape. Tippmann usually never fails. They did this time.

I may have fixed my Carver One. If I turn the hose at the joint between the braid and the thread just right, it stops leaking. I still think that this is a design flaw. I thought the hose was rigid all the way from one threaded end to the other. I was wrong.

I too had a prob. with my Carver.. the co2 line swivel leaked...bought new line, then only to find out that where the line screws into the power valve leaked, betweem the valve body and the power valve, so I epoxied the line in and around the powervalve...No more leak!!! I sent Tippman a message, so we'll see if they fix the "design flaw", as for the lines, well they are just mass produced so Tippman has no control over them. Other than that I love this marker...style, looks, and it handles like a dream.

Greetings all,
I recently purchased a "Carver One" marker. Here is my review.
I have been playing paintball for years, I obviously preffer woods-ball.
The first thing I noticed when I handled the Carver One in respect to the other Tippmann Markers I was assessing (I bought it at a store) was the durable feel. This marker exudes durability. I preffer mechanical to electric triggers (as this is just one more thing in my opinion that can break etc in a game, or lose power), which the Craver One has stock. The marker fired well. The barrel would be the first thing that I purchase (as I did earlier today). After research I purchased a barrel that is compatible with the 98 model. I will post a follow up on this point after I receive the product to see if it fits correctly.
I use a remote and also attached an actual M4 push button bi-pod fore grip to the marker. This added a tremendous amount of control. The marker was easily adjusted to the standard 280 for most paintball fields. I didnt chop any balls, nor did any drop out of the marker as I was maneuvering with it.
The only issue I had with the marker is the feed neck for the hopper would loosen as I played. I recommend either to tighten it with a tool before play and would recommend posibly some lock tight screw goo. After I tightened it with a tool I didnt have any more issues with it, however, if you go to play without tightening it and without a tool handy, you will find it necessary to tighten this screw every few minutes.
Other than the stock barrel, and the feeder neck screw issue, I am very pleased with this marker. I purchased a rifled barrel today and will update this thread with a review of this, and the performance of it with the carver one.
Side note: I also use a remote and found no loss of velocity due to this attachmant.
Respectfully,
Tim T.

I have owned the Bravo One for a brief time and got rid of it, found it heavy, cumbersome and the handle a paint to mount sights on. The Carver 1 however is a pretty good marker right out of the box, with some mods added. I immediately recommend a collapsible stock and Ninja Remote Line, I also bought a Tippmann sling.
With the after market upgrades, I found the gun amazingly light and comfortable to game with at the ready position. Playing 2 on 2 on the field with this marker, i was able to take out the 2 opposing players myself, my teammate got sniped out. The two opposing players having more piantball, but no military experience and they had better marker setups. Firing the marker, it makes a good pop, but noted my grouping was good, estimate 8" to 12" grouping at 100'. I was able to take out my 2nd opponent through a bunker, he was showing a small piece of shoulder and letting go of 6 to 8 rounds from 40 feet away took him out. I fired off roughly 150 rounds, no breaks, no chop, no difficulties with the marker. Tippmann made a very good marketing call with this marker. I highly recommend it.

Hey all, I am happy to see such good reviews about the Carver One. I will also recommend it to everyone. I have been using it for sometime but never got any issues like the leaks reported. I have also heard about this leak when I got it. But I have never faced any such leak issue. I have never ever faced any difficulties in handling with this marker and playing has been much smoother.

I bought my carver one form a kid that took it home and his mom lost it
he had it on craigslist for $100 i told him i had $80 cash.....he took it!!
it was sealed right in the box with factory seal untouched.
like others have said but when i pulled it out of the box it was amazing, tough durable, sleek.
it seems like a must to get a grip on the front as it just feels right
I have a g36 folding stock and tm-7 folding grip and a 551 replica holo sight. it is a very versatile marker
going form a "sniper" to assult to cqb with just a change of the barrel or stock.
I have put a 18" sp barrel on it and it was to long for my liking so i have the 14" sp barrel for CQB and works great !!
The only problem i find is that the cyclone doenst fit (i have seen ppl mod the cyclone to fit but no info on it)
now if tippmann does get a cyclone kit for the carver i would hope they could make it a bit smaller to make it uniform with the body.
and also the guy that said the bretta storm stock would look sick
yes yes it would!!!!

I had the same problem with my 98 custom after I took the line out of the power tube. All you need is teflon/plumbers tape and maybe some blue locktite if it doesn't fix it. Take about 4-6 wraps of tefflon tape and try it out, if that doesn't work try a few wraps more, then if that doesn't work try putting locktite on the threads too.

Ah, the Carver One. This marker taught me several valuable lessons.
------------- FIRST LESSON) "You get what you pay for." does NOT always apply. I picked up the carver one, and set it up for sniping; side-mounted(machined the parts myself)tank, 20 inch barrel cut to 18 to minimize over-porting, complete with silencer (yes, it actually works, with no loss of accuracy). I have had it for nearly three years now, and have never once chopped any balls. EVER. The accuracy is damn near perfect, and I regularly take it onto the field where it holds its own and then some with $1000+ Dye, Azodin, etc. Markers. I even sold my Planet Eclipse Geo 2 because I simply stopped using it. The Carver one had durability and reliability written all over it out of the box, and my expectations in that department have been met and exceeded. I have punished this marker harshly, and it has obediently and stoically taken its lumps. ------------- SECOND LESSON) PAY ATTENTION TO BAD REVIEWS!! Take them with a grain of salt, but never at face value. Often, reviews can tell ALOT about what you can expect to improve upon, not just what doesn't work right or is flawed. When this happens, the consumer in question may just have some valid points to make...so pay attention to what they have to say, as you can get an idea of where you can apply a bit of imagination to tweak the marker above and beyond even the designer's intent. For example: Is the barrel not fitting in (too thin)upon upgrade? No prob! Using some epoxy and a 3/16 thick strip of vulcanized rubber, I made a removable insert to stabilize the barrel, and it's a nice snug fit. -------------- THIRD LESSON) Don't laugh/jeer at the people with $1000+ markers as they walk off the field after you take them out with a fully upgraded and personally tweaked marker you spent maybe $250 on. They really hate that, and it really IS kind of rubbing their noses in it. For the record, I was once one of the ones walking off the field, cussing out the kid with the Carver One, who was laughing/jeering at us. What changed? I asked him about his marker AFTER I calmed down. Curiosity finally got better of me, and here I am now singing its praises. -------------- LAST) Skill and tactic will beat out Name Brand/price tag EVERY TIME. |
