98 PS Valve air leak

   Hey all,
So I've had my 98 brand new from Tippmann for less than a month. I've played with it a few time and its amazing. I absolutely love the gun. Until now, I've only cleaned the outside of the gun as it has not gotten that dirty with paint. Today I finally decided to open her up to clean the gun. Now, this is the first 98 PS I've ever use or opened, so I took of the first half of the body which is the grip. It came off easy. Then I went to take of the front half and thats where the problem started. All screws where off but It was way too tight. I couldn't separate the plates. So after messing with it I finally took a flathead and used it to separate the body. There was a lot of friction. I don't believe there was suppose to. But I didn't think much of it at the time. I just assumed that it was because the gun was brand new and it would loosen up the more I opened it up for maintenance. After cleaning it, it was time to put it back together but when I went to put the front half on there was way too much friction and it wouldn't fall into place smoothly. The friction was coming from the power tube/air valve connection. So i ended up screwing in the first two front screws at the front of the marker then placed the back plate down and started to screw it on and I used it to lower the front plate into place as I screwed down the back plate. After some force it finally set in. So now I have my marker completely put together and I air it up to make sure everything is right and there is a leak from the valve that screws into the power tube. First time I've heard it. It hadn't leaked before at all. What did I do wrong? And is there supposed to be so much friction from the front body plate? After watching a air leak video from Tippmann I realized for the first time that the 98 PS have a self sealing power tube/air valve and that you simply screw tight without any teflon tape. That being said, was I suppose to loosed the valve from the power tube before I tried to take off the front plate? And especially before I tried to place the plate back on? Anyways, I tried doing what the maintenance video said and I cant get the air leak to stop. What can I do? And most importantly, I want to know what I did wrong so I don't do it again. And as annoying as it is, it looks like I have to send my gun to Tippmann to have then look at it. Thanks for any help. Its much appreciated.

	by 98 PS I am assuming you mean the Platinum Series and not the pro series. If I am correct(which i think i am by the way you describe things) Then the answer is yes, you were suppose to un-screw the gas line first. then remove the body pieces. that's why there was so much friction. the valve/gas line uses a pressure seal What you need to do is un-screw the gas line and remove it, then remove all body screws and inspect for any damage. Re-assemble the body leaving the gas line for last. then installing it. DO NOT over tighten. then air it up and check for leaks. if there is none, great! congrats! if there is then tighten the line a little more.

	Thank You so much Jollyroger for the reply. Believe it or not I feel a lot better now knowing that is was something I did to break it instead of having the bad luck and inconvenience of getting a malfunctioning product. I did not loosen the valve at all before I took the body plates off. But what is upsetting though is that as soon as I felt the slightest friction, I called tippmann before I did anything harmful to the gun and asked if it was suppose to be hard to take the front plate off and he said yes because it was a new gun. He at no point suggested or asked if I had removed the valve off first. So.. going by his word I went on to pry the front half off. On top of that, I am an old 98 user and only recently started back up with paintball and I went with old common sense and knowledge based on the old 98 models. My fault. BUT, nowhere on the box or anywhere relatively obvious does it say to HAULT and make sure to unscrew the valve of first due to some changed internals. And no one is gonna find out of changed internals till they open it and make the mistake I did. Maybe I was blind and missed it completely where it says to be cautious of the air valve and I apologize if I did. But there was absolutely no reason for me to assume that I couldn't take the body plates off before I took the air line off. Again sorry if I missed it somewhere. And again, lets not forget that I did call them to make sure and they didn't think of it either. Worry for the rant jolly. I just absolutely love my 98 (platinum Series) and now I have to ship it and not be able to play for probably 2 weeks. Thanks again for the input. Its much appreciated.

	Actually, lol, it does say to remove the gas line. Page 26 in your manual, third line from the top. lol. However, I doubt your gun is broken. I am willing to bet that the pieces are just a little cockeyed. do what i told you to do and disassemble your marker again and then inspect it and reassemble. 	oh I have absolutely no doubt that it says it in the manual. I meant it didn't have it in an obvious place right away as soon as you opened the box. like a sticker on the marker by the valve. And don't get me wrong, thats the last time I don't read the manual first but I had absolutely no reason to assume that A.) the valve comes off easy, and B.) that it had to be removed to take the gun apart. A mistake on my part? yes. But that doesn't change the fact that there are probably plenty of players that will make the same mistake especially one who used the old models. tippmann should have done a better job on making sure it doesn't happen. I cant reiterate enough that its my fault but as I said, I called tippmann and they didn't think to mention it or think of that as one of the problems. They just said its was because it was a new marker.
