GTA A-5 Collapsible stock, O-ring???

I found the GTA Tippmann 3 position collapsible stock at a local sporting good store for $50 dollars where the GTA stocks on amazon run around $80 so I picked it up.  Now to my frustration, on the back of the box it lists 4 steps to install the stock:
 
Pull both rear pins and remove end cap
Insert O-Ring into body behind bolt
Line up spring and pin with hole in stock
Push stock forward then replace pins
(with a picture for each step)
 
Simple enoug right?  Only this stock came with no O-ring, the A-5 marker came with 1 extra which is clear and definately to small for this... I even bought the A-5 parts kit today, which also have no black/dark O-ring that fits well behind the bolt...  Every review on how to install this stock simply leaves out the part about putting in the O-ring, even the video on youtube from tippmann.com showing step by step how to install the stock simply skips the step completely and never mentions why.  The only bit of info I could find online is that it will work without the O-ring but you may loose more CO2 with every shot.  I simply cannot find an answer to this besides the possibilty that my stock was missing an O-ring it should have come with?  But I dont see anywhere in the packaging that looks like it would hold an O-ring.
 
Please help!  I need to know where I am expected to get this ring and what size and color it is.  The reason I keep saying dark/black is that on the back of the box it shows a hand inserting this mystery ring into the back of the A-5 but its dark in color and the A-5 parts kit did come with a ring that fits pretty well behind the bolt but it made of a harder material than the smaller darker O-rings and it is clear.

They are referring to the gray approx 3/4" buffer O-ring that hangs on the main drive spring. The marker should have had one already. Part number 98-57 in this diagram:

I dont seem to have this ring, I see it on the diagram and on the one in my owners manual (same diagram) but I cant find it strangly enough.  I know it didnt fall out when I took it apart as it was in my room on white carpet I just cant seem to find it... I see there a an A-5 replacement O-ring kit sold, but they dont seem to list which rings it has by product number (98-57).  Do you know if it would inclue that exact ring?
 
My bolt also looks different than shown in the diagram and I dont see 02-60 end cap snap ring, as well as my original end cap doesnt have that metal pull ring.  It is an A-5 but relatively new, possibly they slightly changed the A-5s slightly but not the diagram?

They have changed the design of the end cap over the years.  My understanding is that the newer end caps have a built in buffer o-ring so don't require the loose one on the drive spring.  It sounds like your stock was designed for the older A5s.  You definitely want an o-ring in this position because if the stock does not have a shock absorbing system it will eventually fail (or the body will) from being pounded by the rear bolt (hammer).

This o-ring only serves to act as a buffer between the end cap/stock and the hammer.  I have used appropriately sized plumbing o-rings for this in several markers over the years without a problem.

Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've been searching the internet for info on a similar problem to this, and was hoping I might find some insight here.  Fair warning... this is my first marker, so obviously the first time I've messed around inside of one.  I just bought a A5 package that came with a cheapy RAP4 stock.  Like BlindFaith, my stock didn't come with any o-rings, and I've got a newer A5 that has the redesigned end cap (sans o-ring).  Unlike BlindFaith, I didn't even get any instructions.  It's obviously not rocket science to get the thing on, but I'm pretty new to all this stuff, so I don't want to screw anything up.  It seems from above that I'm gonna need to get a 98-57 o-ring, but (here comes the stupid part) I wouldn't even know where to put it...  The stock end that fits in place of the end cap has a groove around it that almost looks like it's there to accommodate an o-ring, but it's way too deep (the ring would just fall in there and not contact anything).  Also, having an o-ring in there wouldn't provide the shock absorption that Mack was talking about.  But if it doesn't go in there, where would it go?  Doesn't seem like it should just be flopping around in there...  So basically, I don't know what the hell I'm doing.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just put the o-ring around the spring and drive pin between the rear bolt and the end cap of the stock.  It will just hang loosely on the spring and do buffer-type o-ring stuff.  (In this position it will be caught between the rear bolt and end cap, thus absorbing impact, every time the bolt comes back.)
