Hi, Ive only played paintball, woodsball once, and got demolished by everyone else. But i enjoyed the thrill of not knowing exactly where your enimies are, and it got me hooked to paint ball and now i want my own paintball gun, and to play for fun.

I was looking at tippman guns, and was thinking about either getting a 98 or a x7.

I was thinking of maybe getting a sniper marker, but i dont know how well that would fare in acctual "battle"
so i kind of abandend that idea ( even tho it sounds fun ).

Ive found a X7 kit with X7 marker, 20 Oz co2 tank and i think a kinda bad mask tho( can upgrade that later)
Is the 98 or X7 more customizable to add like red dot sights, the thing that goes on your shoulder ( the name of it escapes me) and other stuff. or is the 98 better for a newb?

heres the kit
http://www.tippmannparts.com/Tippmann-X7-Paintball-Gun-Starter-Kit-p/5312.htm

Also a few questions. Can one use a paint bazooka in scenario and woodsball games or no?
Are head shots allowed, and do most places ahve the mercy rule?(cant shoot someone within close range, or behind them within  like 5-15 feet  or somthing)

Thanks for feedback and help! :D

Welcome to the forum.
If you are just starting out, think about the 98 or A5.
Head shots are allowed although some fields frown on them, bazookas are generally used in scenario play.
Mercy rule is the surrender rule, generally 15-20 feet for surrender and require that you follow that rule.

Oh, before anyone else gets on you about it, there is no sniping in paintball, read the threads about it.
Now go play some paintball.

I would also consider the US Army paintball line. Very well priced entry level markers and gentle on the wallet. If you upgrade later, you can keep them as back ups or loaners for friends.

INVEST IN A GOOD MASK! IMO, this is the one thing that you do not want to cheap out on.  With masks, you get what you pay for. You can make up for a lesser marker with aggressive play and tactics, you can't do either if you are sitting in the back waiting for your mask to defog.

Okay thanks for your replies both of you. ill probbaly get a 98 for christmas ( or if a get a job soon, might eb able to get a 98 by end of october or early nov) but one thing ive been wondering is there a difference between the 98 and 98 custom? or are they the same thing?

Also can scopes ( to see far away for like scenario games, scouting out an area first) and or Red dot / green dot sights be added to either?

Also what are some good sight's/scopes and masks are there to get out there?

Sorry for all these questions lol

The 98 Custom Platinum is the current model of 98 offered. There was an M98, 98 Custom, and 98 Custom with ACT offered before the Platinum. These are probably only available used now. Just for the record, the US Army line of markers are made by Tippmann and actually use the same internals as the 98C.... You can get a Carver One with E-grip for considerably less than a 98C. Worth a look.

Check the stickies for the "which mask is right for me?" thread. It will give you a good idea what to look for.

I don't personally use a Red Dot, but some people here do, and they seem to have their purpose. My brother actually just started using one and swears by it now. I have heard that NCStar products are not very good quality, but I don't know enough about them to offer any further advice on the subject.

Also read through the Paintball 101 thread. Lots of good info there as well.

IMO, don't get a scope.  Scopes are for rifles and you will not get the same accuracy from a paintball gun. Red dots have mixed results.  If you are worried about seeing in the distance, get a small monocular that you can keep on your persons for that. Search the threads for mask preference.

Beastly?  Hair and teeth are a good mod.
Honestly, a paint job that you like would be a good start.  Look at the Barrel stickies and threads, people like the J&J barrels.  Think about an HPA tank instead of CO2.

How you desire to "supe up" a marker will have an impact on what marker you purchase.  For instance if you mean make it cool looking, then purchasing a US Army marker would limit you to the basic looks they come with (mostly) while getting an X7 would provide more options.

As far as the US Army markers being good overall, they are just Tippmanns in a different body so they are as good as Tippmanns.

Before you expect any useful answers you really need to decide the overall direction you wish to take your marker and read through the information stickied in various places around the forum (as suggested above) to get an idea of what can and can't be done.
