Doing my part again. Today I pick up my new Harley, 2011 Heritage Softtail Classic. Test ride on Tuesday. momma's first comment was on the color. Yellow, because I am tired of playing 'dodge car' matbe the 4 wheelers would see me better, she said no way, so we are back to basisc black.
ABS brakes, anti-theft system, new electronics (tach is in digital screen) warning cluster instead of 'idiot lights' and the did the veteran modifacations free. Sundowner seat to keep my stim control panel from rubbing on step up rear seat, moving floorboards foward a tad to ease my knee angle, handlbar step up and a little rollback so I sit straight up, 4 year nose to tail warrenty and 4 year service plan (oil changes, timing checks, and first drive belt replacement), and 4 year free dealer winter storage. Going to be near 80 today so short ride, going to see Rodney Carrington in Omaha tonight, Fri/Sat more great weather so see a good opertunity to break it in before winter. So I saved possible another job at the York assembly plant, Momma is looking at getting an 883LOW in Spring, so I see a lot of riding next year, making a point to visit son and grandkids in TN, just to twist the knife again in ex-wife 1. |

Very nice.
Granted, I know nothing about bikes, but a quick google image search helped. |

Harley Davidson is one of those companies that will really make me sad if they are ever made overseas. Or Mexico. although Im sure they're probably 49.9999999% foreign content, but still.

I understand . . . I feel the same way about Jeeps. (Even though I don't drive them anymore.) |

Milwaukee almost lost Harley. but the workers finally agreed to a contract. I don't ride, but I think if I did I would be obligated to get a Harley because I live in Milwaukee.

Never understood the attraction of HD. You must really need attention to ride a harley. The sole fact they sell bikes is sound and image, nothing more.
I would of bought a Buell if I wanted to buy a 'merican bike. But look what HD did that that brand.....
Don't forget to buy the leather HD jackets that are made in a 3rd world country to go along with that bike.

I never got into bikes...I can barely drive something with 4 wheels, let alone 2...
Yeah, that thing that Asians can't drive...it's true. |

My leather gear is made in South Dakota from buffalo hide, American Made. Helmets are CCR American Made. Harley is a name, the ride is not as good as the Japanese clones, but the engine sound and the vibration means a lot to the traditional rider. Jealousy is a terrible thing, tradition means a lot to the older generation of biker, youngsters on thier crotch rockets have no clue. The resurgence of the 'cafe racer' era of the late 50's and ealy 60's is coming back, along with the resurgence of the classics, Triumph, BSA, Royal Enfield, many just do not understand. Like our friend Impulse.
Being a 'biker' carries on a tradition, Harley holds the line, 10% is yes Japanese electronics, but the iron is all American Made. Edited by oldsoldier - 08 October 2010 at 8:39am |

I do agree with OS on the nostalgia bit, the same easily applies to the style of cars I like.
Although OS, I do have to pick on you. You have mentioned multiple times that you enjoy American made products, and an American brand. Then why did you buy a Toyota? I understand your Jeep was a piece of crap, but then again it was made by Chrysler. Why not buy an F150? While I wouldnt want to buy a 1995 Ford Taurus, I wouldnt hesitate to drive any new Ford whatsoever.

The Tundra was assembled in San Antonio, just not into Fix Or Repair Daily vehicles.

I still really want a Triumph.
I'm convinced that a better looking motorcycle than the Triumph Bonneville has not been made.
