Its been a hot minute since I made a thread so here is my first of 2011.
Does anyone else find it frustrating that some people just have not yet figured out how to leave a message on an answering machine/ voicemail system? Nothing has been aggrevating me more than messages that dont provide any information as to why some has called. A message such as the following is not acceptable: When a person reaches a voicemail message dont say, " Answer the phone or pick up." Once the call hass been forwarded to voice mail, it is impossible for the person you are calling to do as requested since the call has already been forwarded. Also, when leaving a message tell the person you have called, why you called. There is no reason why a person needs to call me and ask that I call them back, only to find out that when I do call you back that the information could have been provided in the message. It just wastes my time. I think my frustration level has reached the point as to where if I a not satisfied with a caller's message and it does not provide any reason to return a call other than the person telling me to so, I will just ignore them from now on. This ends this evenings public service announcement. I now return you to your normally scheduled forum browsing. |

I also find it frustrating when people leave a voicemail of them hanging up. You really sat through the greeting, waited for the beep then finally hung up? Might as well say something if you make it to the beep.

truth. Also when you know they tell you something completely stupid for the 5 minutes of recording time. Like how their cat hasn't been eating a lot lately, or that curling irons aren't for cooking food. |

If your answering machine notice is less than 3 seconds long, sometimes there isn't enough time to hang up before one processes that a person hasn't picked up. Sometimes a conversation is better than leaving a message for someone to think about before responding. Especially if said person is mad at you.

Work messages should come with the whole package. Who called, why, what number to get back to them at and such.
House messages I dont feel the same. If my buddy phones me up asking me to call him back I have no problem with that.
Look at it this way, people arent happy they reached your voice mail. They actually wanna talk to you, not avoid you. You have people who care about you god, lol. People wanna hear your voice and hear your doing good.
Whats wrong with that?
Im just looking at it differently, I think it's a good thing they are asking to talk to you. Not avoiding you by just leaving a message, without wanting you to call back.
Dont you feel all warm with love now? lol

I have gotten to the point that I really only answer the phone for one or two people. Otherwise I let it go to vm and listen to it to determine if I really want to call them back about it or just send them a text. If they don't leave a message, I usually just flush it and move on. |

I completely screw up answering machine / voicemail messages. It's really sad, so I never leave them unless I have to. |

I thought that answering machines had been superseded by texting.

I refuse to check my voicemail other than to delete them. I know you called, every phone has caller ID now.

Unless I am waiting for a phone call for a job because very rarely my phone won't tell me if I missed a call. |
