So I got rid of my wasr10, really enjoyed it, but it cost way too much to use it, which is one of the reasons I sold it.
Anywho, I'm looking for the best (in your opinion) .22 pistol or rifle. I would like something that looks cool, and is just overall fun to shoot. Again, this is all opinion, and if you could have anything, what would you get? |

Ruger 10/22 is really reputable. I don't own one, but I've plinked with a friends. They're nice pieces.
Of course, it depends what you've got to spend. A few years back I spend $100 and picked up a savage in .22LR. Its a great little rifle and I've made some decent shots with it. One of the most fun I've had though, is with my father's Henry .22 I'm an avid bolt action shooter, but the lever action of the Henry was a blast. All in all, your question is a really vague one. What would you rather? Pistol or rifle? What's your spending range? What's your preferred action? |

I'm partial to assault rifle type guns myself. But thats why I left the question so open, so I can get some very different views than my own.

Bolt action seems kinda cool. Not sure if I would get tired of it though. That M&P .22 is pretty neat looking. The ruger 10/22 I found has a ton of great reviews.

My favorite .22 that I've had since I was 8-
![]() Winchester 9422. As much fun as you can have with a .22 rifle, low maintenance (unlike automatics where you have to picky about ammo as to prevent jamming), incredibly accurate and high quality.
Otherwise, as far as rifles go, I'm all about .17 HMR's now. I have one of these-
Pistols, you can't go wrong with a Ruger 22 or a Browning .22. Both great pistols.
![]() And the browning-
![]() Minus the silencer of course, my experience is with the Browning, and I loved it. They're relatively inexpensive, low maintenance (though you still have to use good ammo...I used CCI mini mags in all my automatics) nad pretty accurate.

Friend just bought A really nice savage bolt action for $203 at dicks sporting goods, haven't got a chance to fire it yet but the feel of it is pretty good. As far as that goes, I also am a fan of the ruger 10/22, but when it came down to getting the best bang for my friends buck today the savage won out.

My Savage is one of my favorite rifles. Its also the only one I own with a synthetic stock. if anything, that's the only thing I have to complain about it. Its almost TOO light. |

ANSHUTZ!
.22 rifles are the only thing I've shot competitively and I still, depressingly, have no real knowledge of them.

I think you might find that the AR-15 style .22s are fun, but relatively expensive for what they do. If you don't care about that, then by all means go for it.
You really can't go wrong with a relatively cheap bolt action .22. They almost always go bang. I've got an old Marlin (1953ish manufacture) which is great fun to plink with. They don't really wear out, at least not in one lifetime. |

Ruger 10/22 rifle, Ruger 22/45 pistol are my standards for 22. Have a Henry 'Littleboy' 22 nice but quirky at times.

10/22's are nice, but I'd probably go with the MP 15-22. While it is a lot of $ for a .22, it is still as fun as all living get up. You can also dress it up like a real M&P, and you can use it in some carbine training courses.
The classic .22 pistol shape, the Colt Woodsman, the 22/45 or whatever are always good to go. My personal favorite is the Colt .22 "Cadet".
Pretty much any bull barrel .22 is best IMHO. The whole point of a .22 is low recoil plinking fun. The bull barrel makes the gun not even move. The Colt.22 I find fits my hand perfectly, and it is great fun to play with. IF I had the extra cash for ammo, I'd aim towards the PMR-30. That is a sweet little toy, but not a .22 LR, it's a 22 magnum. |

The best? How does what is best for you? I have older taste in .22's. I have a few Mossberg .22's and they are sweet. So damn accurate for nearly 45 year old rifles. My Dad gave me when I was 10 a Mossberg 360, It takes Long rifle and shorts. Recently traded my cousin an Armalite AR7 for a Mossberg 144 TR with heavy target barrel and front sight, sans rear. Henry and Ruger make a great rifle, the 10/22 is accurate out of the box, very easy to maintain and fun to shoot. You also have quite a few upgrades you can add on for either looks or accuracy. Stress on the "or" part of that. IMO. I have a Ruger Mark II .22 pistol early 80's production. It is not the best looking but it is accurate and comfortable to shoot. It holds well and feels natural, like point your finger. Anschutz, the BMW or Mercedes of .22's, Scotchy has some expensive taste but good taste. Shop around for a used rifle for ideas. You might come across something already put together ready to go. Keep in mind that like a used car you might be inheriting some one's headache. If you by used, get something that you can easily familiarize your self with quickly so that you can trouble shoot and correct or repair. Good luck and post the rifle when you get it.

My favorite gun to shoot is my ruger mark II .22 pistol. Great accuracy, and cheap to shoot.
