The north called, they want their weather back.
So I've always wondered why people who live in cold climates piss and moan about the snow and ice. I now know why. I spent well over twenty minutes just getting my car de-iced for work. Then I drove home in this (which I realize is no big deal to many of you, but this is a freaking blizzard for us)-

I need to get a good pic of the crap me and flurry deal with.
Also: Dear Texas, please quit sending all your oil rig guys up with their beautiful pickups. Your going to send me dangerously into debt if you keep taunting me.

Ha, you would hate life if you lived here and were tempted by pickups. I don't even like them, nor do I have a need for one, nor could I afford the fueling costs, but when a nice pickup drives by (which happens all day err' day) I can't help but want one. Anyway, I literally got on my laptop to post a thread about the weather in Texas and the dangerous conditions that come as a result. We don't even have enough snow to cover the hood of our cars, but within five minutes of going outside with some housemates we saw one person skid to a stop 20-30 feet past their stop. Not ten minutes later we saw someone in an SUV do a 180 in the middle of the street. Nobody was hurt, so we laughed, but really, I'll be taking the nature-route to class in the morning to avoid the paved roads because I don't trust Texas drivers with the ice on the road. That's if the university doesn't just shut down, not because of the ice or because it might be dangerous to travel for some people, but because it's cold. Never change, Texas. Never change. |

The biggest issue up here isn't the snow, it's the snow on top of the ice. I can generally handle most weather conditions just fine, but this one has been a little much. I parked my car in the driveway, and it slid back down as I got out of it
But yes, Texas drivers do suck at weather of any kind. We're divided into two types of idiots-those that are scared to death and make panic decisions that cause wrecks, or those that think they can drive anything, even if they've never even seen a snowflake, and plow through red lights at 80 miles an hour, not realizing they can't stop.
I passed quite a few of both on the way to and from work, but the latter seemed to be the most predominate. Sadly, most of them had kids in the car, and likely there'll be a few people die over the next few days.
You're smart to take the back roads, I do the same. No way in hell I'm getting on 67 with the mix of dumbasses and 18 wheelers + ice.

Dear Texas,
We have enough snow, and thought you would like a little.
Love,
North Dakota.
Don't feel too bad Ammo, one of those nice Oil trucks from Cali. wanted to take the train home. Too bad he was driving the wrong direction (East) on the tracks and was rear ended by a train. The guy got a quick trip to Minot...As far as I know he's still alive. Guys BAC was 4X the legal limit.

There's white stuff on the ground in winter. Salt could be falling from the sky and I would call it snow. Ice is the major concern here too, and that's what I meant. Turns out the "snow" that we saw falling is just really fine hail that has since become noticeably larger. What sucks is the ground is seems to be just warm enough to cause the hail to melt slightly, but cold enough that the water freezes, so we have sheets of ice on the ground that offer as little traction as ice but with the appearance of concrete. I know that's nothing novel for most of you, but Jesus are Texans woefully unprepared for this kind of thing. And since leaving this tab open in my browser a few hours ago, there is enough snow on the road for it to be completely white. I've already written MOO in twenty-feet letters on the road. Any suggestions on how else I can make up for 22 lost years of winter childhood fun? Edited by Gatyr - 04 February 2011 at 6:18am |

I guess you can't build a snowman, but if you find enough snow to do so you should.

I'm sorry, I thought I lived in Texas. Couldn't tell with the 3" of ice on Monday, -5* windchill on Tuesday, and 2" of snow on Friday!
Worst part? While everyone else gets a week full of snow days, not Emergency Services! Nope... we have the make the drive in to work. It took me 6.5 hours to get home on Tuesday after a 24hr shift. But hey, I miss the snow from up north and would take snow over ice ANY day.

SNOW!
I was grinning ear to ear this morning. We tried driving out to AMD and the road we're on is a solid sheet of ice.

You other texas people are a lot of pansies. I am from Texas as some of you know and I am up in Indiana and I have driven in the snow and I don't have problems. But I know sometimes, it's not your fault, it's the people that don't realize how to drive in conditions other than dry streets or rain.

The best part about living in Kentucky is we get 100 degree summers and 20 degree winters. Luckily the snow hasn't been that bad this year for us.

LOL.
this is the view from my balcony after our blizzard dumped 16-20 inches. ![]() also, we don't piss and moan about it... at least the people that are used to it. we are amazed at the reaction some people have to an inch or two of snow.

When ever other quarter mile has a semi parked like this on the highway, I reserve the right to piss and moan on a 6.5 hour trip home after a long shift:

# days of melting later, I finally got the last piece of ice of my car.
![]() Also, the ice destroyed my wipers. I can hear the motor but no movement. Guessing stripped gears because some water got down inside the mechanism and froze. I hit the wipers today and they went up, then half way back down. I heard a pop and they stopped, now they move freely by hand. Going to have to get into that tomorrow.
