To bad the Illinois Governor can not ban the potential 'death penalty' on the Law abiding citizen by the criminal element. The criminal can now no longer fear the 'death penalty' for his actions, but the citizen still fears the 'death penalty' at the hands of the criminal in the commission of the crime. Outstanding.
I understand the the 'death penalty' is contriversial in the deterrant aspect, but it still gives a moments pause in the minds of the criminal if the potential is still there, a simple 'chance' that the criminal does not execute the totally innocent 'victim' in the commision of his crime, where the 'victim' is not offered a trial by jury, just the intentions of one individual who commets the execution. |

They did ban it. It's the law not to kill people. People do disregard this law, however. That action is illegal.
The death penalty has never significantly been shown as a deterrent to crime, nor as the lack of a death penalty been shown as a bolster.
Irrelevant to the discussion.
By controversial, you mean never actually ever proven as a deterrent.
Citation needed.

The death penalty being a deterrent is about as controversial as the existence of Santa Clause.

Is it bad that when we learned about the Brazen Bull in school my first thought was "Man, I bet that is a pain to clean out?"

If someone wants to kill someone, they will, regardless of perceived punishment. Question: Since DNA has become a pretty much mandatory condition of conviction for death cases in recent years... has there been a SINGLE wrongful conviction when DNA was used? If so, how did it get shown as wrongful? Edited by Linus - 11 March 2011 at 7:32pm |

And lest we forget, most criminals that commit crimes believe they will get away with it, with perhaps, the 'crime of passion' exception.
