I finally did it.

Granted this was last week when I was traveling home for spring break, but I did indeed finally stop and partake in it.

It was a town called Marmet.

Seriously, I think if i were being put to death and had to choose one last meal, it would probably be thee sausage egg and cheese McGriddles, two hashbrowns, and a large Dr Pepper. The cool thing is, that meal would likely kill me anyway, so no worries.

Is that a hashbrown or a chicken patty? In my experience, chicken and pigs make great friends in ma bellay, although potatoes are welcome on most everything. GG

Of all the places to stop and get Tudor's Marmet would have probably been my last suggestion. As you were undoubtedly on the I-64/I-77 corridor through Beckley and Beaver, I would have stopped there. Or taken a little side-run up US-19 at Beckley to hit up the Fayetteville Tudor's. But Marmet? I'm sorry you had to witness that. I grew up in Charleston and know that the only thing Marmet is good for is making fun of Marmet and the people from it. Back when they still had a high school (before consolidation) their school cheer was "M-A-R 'Mar' M-E-T 'Met' M-A-R M-E-T GO MARMET!" (it helps if you do it with a southern coalfield twang in your voice).

Indeed, it was a strange place to stop, but we needed gas, and they had a Kroger gas station. I'll never turn down a 10-cent-off deal.

Anyway, yeah, it was good, but I was less than blown away. Part of it had to do with reputation. I've heard nothing but praise about how awesome Tudor's is from the likes of you and an old newspaper reporter in the PhD program who worked for newspapers in West Virginia for 20 years.

But the biscuit was kind of dry, as was the sausage. The rest was fine, but you could tell it wasn't the freshest of biscuit. The place only had a handfull of people in it, two of which looked to be about 450lbs.

Another contributing factor was that the sandwich was called "The Herd," no doubt because of the closeness of a particular university. Funny enough, I have somehow gone to two universities that have rivalries with that particular university.

I could taste the rivalry and hatred as I chewed.

Whale, are you back at school? Or still down in FL?

You'd best stop off at Tamarack for some fizzood if you know what's good for you! Seriously worth it. The Greenbrier Resort runs the kitchen there.
