    Posted: 14 July 2011 at 11:14pm
Well, tomorrow im going to get a new phone from Verizon and I am really stumped as to which one is better in the most categories. Im going tomorrow in person to "feel" them, then get one.

Ive been looking at the Iphone 4, Droid X2, Droid Incredible 2, Samsung Revolution, Thunderbolt and Droid Charge.

Any advice/suggestions/experience with any of these?

I just got a thundebolt. The stock software was nice but I still rooted it and installed a custom version of android on it. I turn 4g off to save the battery since that's one less radio running than needs to be. Nice phone.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

I rather like my iPhone 4. Flash aside, it's built like a tank and has survived crazy stuff.

That said the 5 comes out soon, and the Droids are a little more open to mods.

Haha, I figured this is how the responses would be, fairly split. It seems like it always comes down to Iphone vs an Android, never a specific android phone. Luckily, I won't have to decide till Sunday.

For your usage, how many days does the Thunderbolt last between charges? Some reviews brought up about the battery life. If you turn 4g off, I'm assuming you don't get updates throughout the day?

Whatever you get let us (me) know how it is.

I'm getting a new phone at the end of the year, and like almost everyone else, I'm probably going to move away from Blackberry.

iPhone 4 keep away from any moisture at all. Seriously.

I'm partial to the iPhone I just prefer the OS over Android. I find it easier to navigate everything. I had a droid, but haven't Used an of the newer android phones

I've got the Samsung Epic 4g. It's a good phone, but a bit bulky in a hard case (most are). A lot of these features are probably common on phones like this, but I haven't used those phones so I'll just speak for this one. I got a good deal because my sister works for Sprint.

I like having the full keyboard that slides out as well as on-screen, and it's easy to switch between Wi-fi, 4g, GPS, Bluetooth and silent with a drop-down menu which also serves as a notification board. It's very easy to get rid of e-mails in bulk if you want them off the phone. Also, it's easy to group contacts into types (family, friends, work, etc.) all at once by selecting the folder you'd like them in and check-marking the names rather than one at a time, back and forth.

E-mail is easy to set up and easy to read on the large screen. The picture is very nice, very vibrant. Video looks sharp.

You can lay out the seven home screens how you'd like with icons where you want them. Sliding between the home screens is easy enough and the home button at the botton takes you right back to the middle screen.

Your background image can be "live" or static. Live backgrounds move and chew up more battery, but having a pond that ripples when you touch it or my lock screen with scrolling Matrix code is pretty cool. Static backgrounds still have a nice effect that I didn't notice until I put up a wider picture (a Tron Recognizer). As you scroll between homescreens the image slides with it and you see more of it to the left or right. It would be nice to see the whole thing at once, but I do like the effect.

Of course there's the Android market and aps you download go into a set Applications section (the blue button on the bottom of the main screen, near the contacts button). From there you can copy icons onto any homescreen you'd like.

Notification tones are where the phone falls short in my opinion. To use sounds or ringtones other than the stock ones it's easiest to download them onto your computer, attach your phone, and then you need to place them into the Notifications or Ringtones folders, which I had to make. It's a little thing, but a step I shouldn't have had to make. Now my wife's ringtone is the theme from Final Fantasy 13, and everybody else is Archer's theme. Text messages or chat are Navi from Zelda (Hey! Listen!) and e-mails are a Zelda treasure chest sound. I'd like to split up more types of notifications, such as text by person, chat by person, e-mail by work/personal, but it's not readily apparent how.

Altogether I'm happy with the choice of phones and while it's a big change of pace in features and size from my Blackberry Tour, I'm going to keep it and enjoy it.

I am thinking of getting a Nokia N9 when it comes out. It's not as powerful as some of the new android phones, but it looks nice and has it's own OS. Not sure when it comes out though. Soon hopefully.

I am tired of having my Iphone 3GS. It overheats like crazy here in Texas and just shuts down randomly. The screen acts up every once in awhile where I can't slide the unlock button all the way so I have to pres the lock button again then it works. Sometimes the space bar sensing area of the keyboard doesn't work.

I'd say go for the iPhone but you're stuck using iTunes to sync and that is some of the worst software I've ever encountered. Once my two years with this 3GS are up I am likely never getting another Apple product again.

As a side note, don't expect Verizon to let you surf the web while talking on the phone unless you're on a solid 4G connection.

Oh, I live within spitting distance of the Sprint world headquarters and I can't make phone calls from my living room. I have to walk out to the street and get choppy signal.

I turn the 4g radio off yes, but I keep the 3g radio running so I still get updates in all my apps, it's just not as fast. I don't really have a need for 4g unless I'm streaming a netflix movie on my break.

The battery lasts all day, i just have to charge it before bed every night. The worst part about it for me is that at work I don't get a cell signal since I work in a bunker so it's constantly searching for a signal which drains the battery very quickly.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

The new google nexus phone should be out around thanksgiving. I was planning on waiting for that phone but verizon tipped my hand by moving to tiered plans so I wanted to get in grandfathered on unlimited data.

Could you turn it on airplane mode while at work?  I'm assuming that would leave wi-fi on (if needed) but turn the cell-signal off?  It might stop it from searching, and help prolong the battery life.
