Tbh, half the reason I am posting is to see how iOS5 likes the forum.

Anyway, I am really getting into whiskey lately and I am wondering what you guys are drinking. I just picked up some Makers Mark and I think I like it better than Jack(which is good but overrated IMHO) for the price. I like the burn of these cheaper whiskers, but I would like to try a nice mellow whiskey for sippin. I usually drink it on the rocks or via shot glass. Black label is too rich for my blood. I am looking at cheaper whiskies. Thoughts?

After typing this, I still like android better. Keyboard lag is horrendous on last years iPod touch running ios5.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

I have absolutely cheap taste in whiskey. I still like SoCo more than anything else.

As far as cheap whiskeys go, I guess I'd go with Jack, but if you're already more happy with MM you're probably better off there.

Crown Royal in all its shapes and sizes is always a safe bet, I absolutely detest Jim Beam, and Jack Daniels single barrel is worth a shot if you want go fancy but not blow out a ton of money.

I gave a Jameson a shot a while back, detested it as well.

If you really like the burn of cheap liquor, you'll definitely get the bang for your buck out of Wild Turkey, though I can't really recommend it to anyone who isn't looking to get smashed on the cheap. Some people enjoy it, for me it's just a drunk maker.

Again, I have absolutely peasant taste in liquor, but I really enjoy sipping on Captain Morgan's private reserve. I'm really not sure how exclusve it can possibly be at 20 bucks a bottle, but it's my favorite poor man's drink, plus it mixes well with everything.

Another interesting non-whiskey route for sipping is Jose Cuervo Black. It's been forever and a day since I drank it, but I remember enjoying it in a similar fashion to whiskey.

Funny note about the Cuervo-I had some people buy it for me when I was like 17...drank part of it, always wondered what happened to it. Found it stashed in the back of my dad's 56 Ford a couple years back, and finished it off...I think I was basically one step above mouthwash at that point LOL

Try to find Ridgemont Reserve 1792.  It can usually be had for around $25 and is a nice, smooth bourbon.  Aged 8 years, 97.3 proof.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a conversation about Whisk(e)y, not stuff that is barely above the level of hooch.

Skip all the mass-produced Brown-Foreman and Beam Inc. They're like the McDonald's of the liquor world. Sure, it's passable and always the same, but it's got no character. Try some of the higher-end Buffalo Trace stuff, and then try some of the smaller start-ups. I'm a big fan of Wasmund's Copper Fox and Catoctin from here in VA.

^^

Jack and the like are horrible.

I usually stick with the Irish stuff though, so I'm not that much help here.

I am no connoisseur but I've got a 12 year old Glenlivet and a bunnahabhain both are quite tasty. I tend to only crack out the whiskey on special occasions (even though it may be relatively cheap stuff)or when I come home with my mates pished.

It's nice to have a celebratory dram now and again. How are you guys drinking your whiskey? I don't really mind if I'm honest a wee bit of water or ice or even neat I'm not fussy.

I have never been a big fan of any sort of Tennessee whiskey, myself.  Bourbon tends to go down a lot smoother, and has a way better taste as well.  I would suggest trying some Knob Creek.

Forty Creek is a relatively cheap Canadian whiskey. If you like Crown Royal, but want to spend less try Forty Creek

I am probably going to try a few Irish and/or Canadian whiskeys. Like I said, I like my cheap MM for most occassions, but I really want a nice sippin' whiskey.

I just purchased a bottle of Woodford Reserve yesterday, and I'm enjoying it.

Woodford is good, a little hot for me, but I also haven't tried it in about 3 or so years.
