I am going to do some searching on here as well, but wanted to start a new topic.

Getting back into Paintball. My Tippmann 98 sat for about 5 years. Before that I had used it for a couple years maybe 10 times a year. Always worked perfect for me.

So I decided to get back into paintball. Bought a few cosmetic upgrades and one internal one. Bought a RAP4 Aluminum Powertube. Also I am now using HPA. Installed it now I have an air leak. It is obviously coming from where the braided hose goes into the valve. Thought maybe I did something wrong (used Teflon tape) and only once it seemed to have less of a leak, but a leak still.

Is my valve screwed? Am I not tightening the hose enough? I swear I have read not to tighten too much. Could I be tightening it too much and causing the leak?

Upon further inspection, I think I overtightened the hose the first time, and ended up digging into the aluminum. You look around the edge of where the hose starts to thread, and it is not a perfect circle, a bit ragged. I will see if I can get a pic.

Guess that may be why they changed the valve and hose in the last 98 and all future models to the self sealing hose, where you just insert it into the valve and then tighten a separate nut.

I didn't get a pic, but it was indeed the valve, where the gas line connects. You could see where I had over tightened it. This time with the new valve, I made sure to hand tighten it first. There was still a slight leak, so I gave it another full turn (until it lined up with where the tank part mounts with the gun, and the leak was gone.

Aluminum, gotta be careful.
