So I know we've talked about our pet peeves here before, but does anyone have any habits of their own they'd like to break?
I have a tendency to chew on the inside of my lip. It wouldn't be so bad, except every time I go to use my listening, it's closer to swishing with lava. |

Most of my pet peeves have to do with other people. Short of threating to blow out their kneecaps, I can't really do much about it.

I chew my nails. I'm not psychotic about it like the people that have nubs, but I do chew them instead of using clippers. I also have the habit of interupting people when they are talking and tend to not make eye contact. I also shake my leg, sniffle instead of blowing my nose, and have a recurring tick that comes and goes. Guess I'm pretty much a mess.

I twist and pull on my beard hair as a nervous tic. It makes it have split ends.

I bite my nails down to the quick. It's not necessarily a bad thing in my line of work though.

If I am not paying attention when I eat small candies (such as M&Ms or Skittles) I will eventually look down and realize that I have dumped them all out on the table and organized them by colors . . . and am eating them in a manner that keeps the numbers of each color remaining as close as possible.

I bite my nails instead of using clippers, and I use way too much profanity.

What Deadeye said.
I chew my nails and swear like a trooper. I now chew gum like it is going out of style. It has cut down the nail chewing but as soon as I don't have gum, I chew my nails and my cuticles. I also drive like a bastard. Actually I don't everyone else drives badly :-) |

Oh man, where to begin. I like to call them character defects. Anywho.
Procrastination. This can be a result of a few things. Either the fear of having to deal with something that is uncomfortable. Which results in me putting it off, but ironically putting it off causes even more anxiety. Or waiting till the last minute simply to have a little chaos in my life. Such as having the money to pay bills, but waiting till the last minute to pay them. Most of my behaviors that affect others is due to selfish behaviors. Not offering someone a drink when I go to the icebox etc. They are things I am working on, but progress not perfection. In my experience, the things other people due that annoy me, usually are things that I do. If I'm self conscious about them, and working to correct them. |

This is me. 100% I've taken weeks to remedy situations that are uncomfortable that could have taken minutes and spared me all kinds of anxiety if I hadn't simply put it off. |

Ditto, but I've got wicked bad restless leg syndrome. If I don't shake my leg if feels like electrified worms are crawling through the muscles in my leg. As soon as I start shaking my leg again, the feeling goes away instantly.

I used to do that all the time. I still sometimes bounce my knee, but nowhere near as often as I used to. Surprised to see so many people here bite their nails. I don't know if I know anyone who does that. |

Nail biting is actually one of the things that drives me absolutely insane I don't know why, but it just does. If I see someone doing it, or God forbid HEAR someone doing it- it sends me straight up a wall. I get twitchy, its nails on a chalkboard x50 for me. My sister does it on purpose when I'm around, just to watch me freak out. |

I have a million. I tend to do everything in numbers. Used to be fours, now it's fives.
I find that I have silly nervous things I do like focusing my eyes in and out or breathing funny, and I find that they're 10x as noticeable when I'm really stressed. I also find that I "tempt fate" alot as a nervous habit. Like the other day I was building a shelf with my dad and I had to really fight the temptation to see how close I could get my hand to the blade. I used to stick my hand in ceiling fans as a kid, and I can't tell you how many bad burns I got from "testing" stove burners. I'm weird. |

I used to bite my nails a lot but now that I'm seeing patients everyday, my better judgment has prevented me from continuing. I used to twist my hair (and beard) when it was longer when I was studying. I tend to shake my leg a lot too, much to the annoyance of others. I'm also always "right", so that can get annoying to people sometimes. But honestly, I'm usually right.

I wish I could handle open-mouth chewers better.
Honestly, I feel like my reaction is acceptable. Chewing with your mouth open is gross and the sound is one of the grossest sounds of all time. One guy at school chewed with his mouth open and he was eating next to me and I was about to yell at him because it was so loud. I put my headphones in to listen to music to drown it out. That was the biggest relief I have ever gotten from music. |

Benji, just so you know, I am posting this then having to edit my post so your sig wont harass me. The thing is making me nervous while typing.
Anyway, where to begin. I chew my nails, but I don't care. Ill make a list: I sometimes walk with a limp. Not bad, but its noticible and irritating. I mumble a lot. I twist my hair. Im horrendously oblivious to other people which is good and bad. A few years ago some kid was interested in my then-current GF and wanted to fight me and made it obvious to a lot of people. Apparently, he was approaching me/saying some crap to me on my way into work and I honestly never noticed him/realized he was there. Found out about that a few days later. I inturrupt people a LOT. Not on purpose, but its a terrible habit and I feel rude for it. Edited by SSOK - 24 May 2012 at 7:31pm |
