We had some terrific thunderstorms and 2.75in of rain from yesterday afternoon to this am. I was returning from Lincoln last PM on the Harley as got stuck in the initial downpours. Made it to Ceresco and asked if I could leave the bike at the local Ford dealer since I still had 3 miles of dirt (slick clay base, gravel and sand on top) road to navigate. Kept bike overnight at dealer and momma cae and got me.
This am went in town got bike and was straddle walking/riding it home. MAde it to 40meters from driveway when the slope of the road and the clay 'snot' finally got me and she started to go over. I layed it down real gentile, no damage, and now what to do. Middle of no where, no way I can lift it up, middle of a dirt road. Called the local repair shop, a young man came out to help (free of charge, gotta love small towns) we got it upright and walked it to the concrete platform in front of the barn. Other than the oil reservior cap popping open and dumping the oil, no scratched chrome of bent anything, that is how gentile I layed it down. The foot platforms were a great help as they and the handlebar end were all that touched. Well now got to wait a week before road dries out enough to use the Harley, and momma now understands why I got the XR650. |
