Go download the Collusion plug-in for whatever browser you use and let it run for 24 hours of normal web-surfing.

It shows and helps block, sites that track you.

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Found it. How does one use it to block?

Wow watching it live is pretty scary!

Worst offender so far? Discovery.com.

It gives the option to blog when you click to view your network of watchers.

Want to see a really bad offender? M-W.com.

Great Plug in; I've been very concerned with data harvesting lately, so this is awesome.

collegehumor.com lights up like a torch, at least 15 different communications with every click.

Firefox add-on Ghostery actually blocks the trackers on webpages for you. You can also choose what it blocks and what it doesnt.

Adblock Plus is a must-have. HTTPS Everywhere is another good one.

geez. Throw a few porn sites in there (for research purposes only of course) and all of a sudden, my map looks like a snow storm.

Tried that, for "research" and for "looking at boobies" and it didn't do anything. LEASTICOULDDO did worse. Even following some of the links to other porno sites didn't set off the cascade I was expecting.

I tried that and it still tracks. The porno site I chose must either be ninja level tracking, or not doing it.

I've used noscript on Firefox for a long time to block Javascript, and by extension, tracking and annoying ajax elements on websites. It isn't as user friendly as plugins that are built to block trackers or ads or whatever, but the end result is basically the same.

The "research" website I looked at lit up considerably less instances than many of the general media sites I visit.
