I had the displeasure of being woken up around 2:30, and couldn't fall back asleep so I decided to get breakfast for once. I tried grits and the stuff seems bland and tasteless, how is one supposed to eat them?

As for the other Southern Breakfast, biscuits and gravy, I only had that once and it was actually pretty good. I had it in some small breakfast place in Seaside.

Also, this stuff is delicious:

What sort of grits did you eat? I actually prefer instant grits over the type that you have to boil and simmer like rice. Instant ones tend to actually have some seasoning in them. We typically ate them with over easy eggs on top. You break the yolk and cut it all up to create a grit/egg mash up. If you are eating them plain, some butter and salt does wonders.

One of my favorite breakfasts is eggs and noodles. Take leftover spaghetti noodles, heat them up in some butter/margarine and toss in some beaten eggs. You end up with scramble eggs with noodles mixed in. Yummy.

Back a million years ago when I started Civil War reenacting, my brother and I camped at our first event and were invited to breakfast by a unit camped next to us. They were a group of Texas boys, and had a pot of sausage gravy and a monster plate of biscuits that could have fed everyone in the field- everything had been made over their campfire.

To this day, I remember it as being one of the best breakfasts I've ever eaten, and I'll jump on any chance I can to make or eat a meal of Biscuits and Gravy.

Love it.

Biscuits and gravy is a regular thing here at home.

Hell, you won't go to any continental breakfast that doesn't at least try to have B&G

Deep fried sunny side up eggs (fried in the layer of sausage grease after cooking sausage), large sausage patties (hand formed not the prepackaged stuff), big bowl grits with butter and salt, huge butter biscuits....I miss living down south, this was a classic breakfast at a small mom and pop resteraunt on the way to Benning.

Best biscuits and gravy I ever had was at a small truck stop resteraunt along I-10 in west Texas, huge chunks of sausage, creamiest gravy ever seen, and a huge butter biscuit....and that tilled coffee from a real perculator, heaven.

When I came to Indiana for college, they were like, hey we like biscuits and gravy and you probably have never heard of it but it's good. I was thinking to myself what are you talking about, I have had that all my life. It's not an Indiana thing!

I guess it's just southern states and states that have nothing else but farming.

I usually don't eat in the morning, but I know it's bad for me so I've been trying to work on it. This summer I mostly had cereal because it was free, and didn't always feel like a bagel. If I'm actually going to bother making a nice breakfast, bacon, eggs, sourdough toast, and orange juice is all that's required.

I like sausage links more than sausage patties.

Yeah, I said it. Come at me.
