Any good ones? I poke around them when I want to learn about something specific, and have occasionally ventured into general discussion sections, and it suspect that the headgear of choice is often made from tinfoil, or a sheet. Any place you can think of where I wouldn't feel like I was getting dumber? Or should I just stick to talking to the experts here?

IMHO, there are entirely too many "bubbas" on most of the forums. ARFCOM is tolerable, FAL Files is about like the mcarterbrown.com of firearms forums. I tend to stay away from most others. Firearms forums are very odd places. I've seen more foul language and slander spewed (or would it technically be libel?) on others than you hear in a public match of CoD when school is out.

I have been on a local fire arms owner forum for my area. There are a few on Yahoo groups that have been very good with answers for me.

I typically just read through the firearms subsection on officers.com. Couple of really knowledgeable guys on there, as long as you research enough to make sure it's not a wannabe posting.

Go local if you can, and/or model specific. On rainy days I will lurk on S&W forums, Survivors SKS (in the mosin section), and retro Arfcom.

I like my local forum.

^^^Local Forums are the way to go.^^^
You get straight answers nearly immediately and meet people for range trips.  Good networking when you go local, shoot someone else's rifle, pistol or shotgun to see if you would like it.
