the best stock would be a tie

A-5 and 98c win stock, but all of them, including the carbine, can be upgraded to be equally good.
The desire for polyester is just to powerful.

are u serious, well obviously the a-5 is the best, its the newest model and more expensive.  that usually means its better.  The a-5 and 98 custom's performance are equal, its just that the a-5 comes with a good hopper

The a-5 comes with a stock just plain non moving plastic hopper.  I dont see how it is 'good".  Now, it is non electonical because of the cyclone feed.  And Newest model and more expensive does not always mean better.  I would rather take an impulse over a shocker.

It depends on what you are and what you are going to do.

If you are a casual player, or newbie, or just plain tight on money, then a 98 will suit you just fine.
And it will grow with you, it is super fun to upgrade a little at a time.

However, an A5 is a little more complicated, but, not more so than a 98 with a mechanical hopper, so were even there on cost, complexity, etc, etc.

If you have some paintball experience and want a marker that already has some upgrades and you have the money to drop up front then get the A5
