I'm new to paintball, gettin my first gun in a couple weeks, and I was wonderin if it was ok to go up trees in woodsball, or if that was like a moral no-no.

You get one enemy out, and he will tell his buddies where you are. There will be no escape from that. And, if you are taken by surprise, you may just fall out of the tree. Not a good thing for paintball's image.

Trees = Bad Arguments for: 1. Element of surprise (most people don't look up-just like in the bad horror movies) Arguments against: 1. Lack of cover (if you have a clear shot out of the foliage, they can shoot in) 2. Lack of mobility (no easy way to get away once located) 3. Gravity (aaaaaaaaah! THUMP!) |

I don't really mind falling, I didn't plan to be more than 10-15 feet up, but i have more fear of climbing up the tree to begin with
. But i guess i'll stick to the ground. Thanks once again guys!

Really, it depends. Sitting 20ft up in an evergreen would suck. If you
were to get shot in the finger, or neck, its not unlikly that you will
jump back and out of the tree.
If you are sitting 8ft up in the first branches of a maple, and you can jump without damaging your gun if you have to, then it would be fun. It may not be the best strategy in alot of situations, and most of your ball will likely break in the foliage, but it would be fun ![]() |

Most woodsball fields dont have big trees wit thick branches, now if yer playing in a Deer Hunting field, then yeah, you can climb that tree, but make sure the person yer shootin at isnt carryin a real firearm goin after fer some real game and you could wind up as a trophy over his fire place.

oh, we're playin on our own stuff, not like a pay-to-play field or anything. just recreational fun around the neighbourhood. no evergreens... south texas. think big dead things. haha. as STXPB says, its Brushball. couple good trees, lots of thorns and random other enviromental hazards.

What your playing is renegade ball also known as outlawball, thats when your not playing on an organized field which in that case you can do as you please. But take it from someone who's been playing for 14 years i've seen some nasty falls in the early days, it's not wise to climb trees while playing paintball. Safety is the most important thing to remember when playing paintball with out it your just looking for trouble, please think of that at all times when on any field especially when on a unregulated field were the markers can be shooting up 300 + fps at that rate of speed a paintball can crush an eyeball. Going up trees? I saw some guy try that... He got pegged about 50 times in about 3 seconds... It is a death trap unless you have some way of getting out of the tree in less than a few seconds... Dont stay in one place... Oh yeah... People DO look up...

I think you will get shot up if you are found because it is hard to get down. Definitely a no-no in my book, although I have considered it.
