    Posted: 11 January 2005 at 7:50am

Why is it that paintball is so shunned?  People cry that it is against gun safety rules to point a gun at another human.

I agree, but paintball has more safety rules to it than most people see.  Besides, a paintball marker is classified as a dangerous weapon... NOT A FIREARM.   Let me give you an example of another dangerous weapon.   Scout knives are classified as dangerous weapons.

People find that pointing a Gun at another person is unsafe.

I agree, but markers aren't GUNS.  I have been through a few gun safety courses and I have shot many different actual guns.

My parents are gun safety freaks.  They yell and hop around when idiots come on TV and say "guns should be illegal."  I agree with my parents.  They also believe that it is totally assanine to point a gun at another human.  I agree on this too.  What my parents and I both agree on is that markers are a type of "tag accessory."  I had to convince my parents to think this way.

Many people believe that markers desencitize people to gun violence.  Think about this!  What moron actually believes that a marker should be classified as a GUN.  It launches projectiles at a fraction of a bullet speed.  What other things launch projectiles?  slingshots, bows, CHILDREN'S TOYS.  All sorts of things do.  NO MARKER IS A TOY, in fact, paintball safety is a great teacher for gun safety.

Read your Tippmann manual.  In the first few pages, Tippmann outlines many crutial actual gun rules.

1 for example is "never point the gun at something you don't intend to shoot"

Plugging a paintball barrel is the same as putting a bolt-stopper in a rifle.

Why do people go crazy about markers then?

Let me answer this:

Vandalism.  The few idiots in the crowd ruin it for the other responsible ones.  Markers are the scapegoat in this case.  Why blame it on the 14 year old who would do better off with a month in juvee?  Im sure that when charges are pressed, it will teach the kid a lesson.  People are too lazy to do this though.  They blame it on the gun, not the kid.  Same goes for real guns.  People say the guns kill people.  NO!  People kill people.  The guns are simply the instrument used.  If we used this attitude for any potential weapon, pencils would be banned.

Kitchen appliances pose the same threat.  CARS!!!  People are killed by cars more than guns.  People neglect to see the truth.

I hope you enjoyed this little opinion.  Surely, I am not the only one who shares it.

all that is fine and dandy, but i dont understand why people feel the need to preach to the masses....i think we all understand gun safety (at least to some extent) and that paintball isnt the devil...this is a paintball forum. i like your post, but put it somewhere useful, like a non-paintball message board or something

Thanks for your opinions.  I wrote this after I read an article on gun bans and national gun destruction day.  And... I feel bad about your friend who was putin jail.  I know someone with a similar situation...  (actually THEY know someone with the same situation.)

I dunno about you guys, but I use a paintball gun. I use markers for coloring and the such.

I refuse to sugar coat my game just so it can be whored out and excepted by the public.

So paintball is shunned. Who cares? Let it be OUR little game.

Preaching to a choir is great when you want to motivate them to sing louder.  Why be the only one to say this, when about 500 or so screaming people, flooding forums, would make such a #$%^ of a difference?

Please.  I got kind of mad when I was writing the original post.  But really.  Think about it!

Crayons are the way to go man... Meh, to be PC, it is calleda marker becasue it "marks" your opponent, rather than maim them, like with a gun. but then again---

Heh or its like these dumb in california who want to outlaw a couple guns because they could be used for snipering but the truth is no one has ever been shot with one that was registered huh kinda weird if you ask me

BTW i tottaly agree with you

The most important part of a gun is the player behind it.
