Darur is slightly fed up right now.
I can understand people ususing the term "ghetto" to describe things of poor quality or worksmanship (although I think its stupid), but after hearing people use the term "ghetto" to describe their GRADES about 40 times today, I am finding the term irksome. Firstly, why of all the terms use "ghetto"? People calling things like their clothes economically depressed districts just doesnt work. Secondly, WE DONT EVEN HAVE A GHETTO IN HAWAII! My god, the closest thing to a ghetto we have is in the heart of Kahului (main city) which consists of a few old worn down houses. How did this term even make it here? Hell, a few weeks ago the school's weekly brodcast consisted of a 15 minute segment called "Ghetto my ride".  /rant (P.S - I do not have any problems with ghettos or their residents, just the way the term is used is irriitating to me0 |

We dont really have a ghetto either, but I use the term too, not very frequently at all though. I see what you mean.

Well it is a Pop culture slang that has gone far beyond its intended audience. Your absolutely right. Dont worry in a few months it will completely be gone and a new word will be used.

WEWT!!! let's all get together and comlain about something we have no control over.
but on a serious note, it's just a fad... our entire culture has become more "ghetto" and more slang has become acceptable. sad to watch society take the downnhill spiral, but it's happening and there's not much we can do about it... |

Language changes. Deal. Most of the expressions you use daily started out as something different entirely. "Ghetto", of course, used to mean "place where the Jews live." Neat, cool, bad - all former ebonics that we now embrace. Gotta go with the change. |

The term "ghetto" is used in replacment of certain words and phrases like "that's or it's ghay, oh that sucks, that is or it's weak, cheaply made or done" and the only way yer fellow Hawaiians got wind of the term Darur is from people that are visiting or have family from the mainland or vise versa, where the term "ghetto" originated....so quit trippin brah and take a chill pill...hell, this forum is gettin more and more ghetto than a check cashing line on welfare day!
