I am going to buy an A5 and have heard different stuff about barrels like brand and length. Which barrel in your opinon is the best and what length should I get. I have heard 16 inches is good but have there ever been tests done to see when a paintball starts to slow down in the barrel. If so, what would be a good length?

it depends on how much $$ your willing to spend on a barrel..personally im cheap so i try to find the cheapest barrel but at the same time the best bang for my buck and i think the 14" Custom Products One-Piece Classic for $35 is the best bang for your buck without spending too much $$....if you're serious into getting a good barrel i would reccomend barrel kits such as the freak, pipe, and stiffi switch

14 inches is the best length, and if u want the best cheepest barrels, go with either a JJ ceramic or a lapco big shot, if u want the best expensive barrels either get a dye boomstick or flatline

Length on the same type of barrel doesnt make any difference other than its longer or shorter and weight. I personaly love the flatline and can not see the point of getting anything else for the A5

^yes it does, 12 and 14 are the best lengths for any barrel, (except for a flatline) the flatline is a fantastic barrel, but shouldn't be bought if you are persuing speedball

show me something that says otherwise.
I own a dye ultralite with a 16'' tip my brother owns one with a 12'' tip. We have tested in a controled indoor enviorment useing the same gun, same paint and same speed. Their was no noticable differnce in a test with two full hoppers each length. After each hopper the tank was topped off. your wrong, their is no differnce within the length normal barrels are made. |

Hey! Oh man...I could go on and on about barrels. First off, length has nothing to do with how far the ball will travel, an increase in velocity is what causes a ball to travel faster and farther. Secondly, length is a factor with efficiency, after 14", the ball will actually start to slow down, so in order to compensate, you will have to increase you velocity and therefore sacrafice efficiency. Plus longer barrels just get in the way, unless you're playin' on a sup-air field, in which case longer barrels are used to push into the bunkers to prevent too much of a player from being exposed to opponents. If you're a player that likes to be up close and personal with the opposition, then you're going to want a shorter barrel to improve your mobility. An 8" or 10" barrel is ideal for front runners and will give you the accuracy you need at such ranges. If you're a back player and like to pick people off from afar, then you'll want a longer barrel to increase your accuracy from longer distances. 12"-14" is ideal for this. If you're a mid or all-around player, I'd suggest getting a 10"-12" to give you the versatility of being able to be mobile and accurate from afar at the same time. Porting also plays a factor, porting gives air in front of the ball somewhere to go so not only quiet the shot but more importantly reduce turbulence and therefore increase consistant shots.(accuracy) But too much porting can start to give way to poor efficiency. If you're looking for performance at an affordable price, the Lapco Bigshot is an excellent choice! Ask anybody! Now it's time to explain the flatline. The flatline uses it's curvature and textured inside to put backspin on the ball and thus allowing the ball to travel farther than any other barrel will allow. But in order for the flatline function properly, you must make sure it is installed properly, kept clean, have your velocity set between 260 and 270fps, and use only quality small bore paint such as Marbs.(anything made by PMI/RPS will work well) All of those factors are extremely important in obtaining optimal performance from the flatline and if any are ignored, you mind as well put a load of crushed paint into your loader. Because your marker will shoot about the same either way. But like I said, I can go forever talking about barrels, so if you have any further questions, either ask them here or pm me. And BTW, County Paintball is a great online retailer to buy paintball stuff. Edited by Lawless |

all my experiance in paintball i found the dye 14" aluminium works great.BUT here is also one other lesson i learned.Tank CO2 is a pain in the bottom. With the compressed air i have no problems at all.so look into a tank while u are at it.Very good investment. |

Well I have been considering upgrading to a Lapco Bigshot 14.
I play woodball, outlaw style, mostly mid field and or on the occasional assault. But I am mostly a supporting player, not a ton of kills but alot of suppressive fire, and one bunker capture last week. ( 1st game of the season for us ) So, is it worth it, should I drop the coin on the 14" lapco? If not, should I just get another 12 but the lapco brand? I could always re-sell my 12" J+J Ceramic? |

well based on what I have heard and read on pbreview, the lapco big shot
is more accurate. I didnt dig the flatline, I found it to be innacurate. I enjoyed the distance, but it just didnt jibe with me. Even though it kind of fits my play style. I think I am going to drop the coin on the 14" Lapco. the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I will be spending some coinage on my gun this year, thats for sure. Edited by colddawn |

There's no reason to waste money on a pipe kit if you just play recreational speedball. It's only a benefit if you play tourneys where you don't pick your own paint. If you buy your own paint you can buy paint that matches your barrel, instead of having to swap out different diameter barrels. |

if you play woodsball, get the flatline. if you play speedball, i don't know, i don't play speedball.
the flatline shoots farther and straiter. when i bought mine, i took it over to my buddies house, he lives right on lake michigan in WI. i went to chrono it, without a chrono, which is a lus to the flatline, just lower velosity down and slowly move it up until it shoots strait and your set. i shot it over the lake and was shoched at how fat it was going and how strait, with a strong corss wind. i took a shot and just watched it fly, strait and farther whan i can throw twice over, maybe even three times. all yo have to do it make sure you intalled it correctly, rear alen screw perfectly inline with the front sight, you have plenty of air and velosity set correctly, and you use good paintballs. i use marb's. work great. i don't even have a palmer stabilizer or lpk to get the Co2 more consistant. now rear velosity adjuster wither. its just me, the flatline, Co2 tank and my A-5. so far. |

I USE A TITANIUM BARREL, ITS ACCURATE AND CONSISTENT. THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE FLATLINE IS TRUE, BUT FROM A FAR DISTANCE THE PAINTBALLS DONT EVEN BREAK WHEN THEY HIT SOMEONE, PLUS ITS INACCURATE..IT SHOOTS HIGH AND IS A PAIN TO CLEAN BECAUSE YOU MUST UNSCREW THE RECIEVER..TITANIUMS ARE MADE OF TITANUIM AND ALUMINUM IN TWO PIECES AND USE A PATENTED HARD BORE FINISH, THEYRE NOT MICRO HONED.
