Well this school year is almost over and I will be graduating high school soon. As I look back I am trying to remember one thing. Did I actually learn anything this year? I'm not sure I did. Sure I have gotten better in my read, writing, and what not but did I actually learn anything I did not know before the first day of school? I have a somewhat kind of theory that school actually only teaches students one thing.
Do what your teacher tells you and get a good grade. Do bad and fail. Or in terms, Do what your boss tells you and get a paycheck. Do bad and get fired. I think that is the only lesson school has taught me. Discuss Edited by themovielife |

I don't think school teaches you very much for the 'real world'. I feel that I could easily make tons of money right now if I could get a job and if a piece of paper didn't say where I went to school. I think school is rather a filler for young people's lives and serves very little purpose. Most jobs out there dont require 12 years of schooling. Half of them could be learned in a month tops of classes about it.
Lawyers, doctors, enginneers, etc are some of the people that do need the education though. EDIT: You mentioned about work, but if you don't have to work for somebody then you don't need to listen to that rule. A good book that seemed to relate to this is Rich Dad Poor Dad. It's a good read to anybody interested in simple concepts of money and life. Well I'm ramlbing and I dont think that made much sense. All well.. Edited by Sammy |

What sort of crappy classes did you take? Do
something like History, you learn a ton. Well, at least in canada, we learn a fair amount about the states too things not tought in US schools. |

I would probably learn stuff if I kept thinking I was.
But even so, I forget absolutley everything math related after summer break. |

The only reason for school is to get an education. Once you have this
education, which i think most of the things i could have tought myself
anyways, then you go to "College" and then get a career, have kids,
retire, die.
Pretty exciting right? Do you really want to do the same thing every day for the rest of your working life? |

I learned a bunch in highschool. But not really from a book. The knowledge comes in as sorta, secondary learning. The real learning, is what happens when your presented with a situation to study something that really gets you going. I had this with, english, auto tech, and spanish. Once you find something that really facinates you, thats really when you learn. The rest is insignificant. High school is also largly about learning social skills.
Also, good job on getting out. Remember all that highschool drama? Well, it will stop, very abrubtly, and people will take you seriously, its terrific. |

I learned stuff in High School. I learned how to bake.
Now I am going to a baking college. Sitting here waiting for my last 15 days of school to go away, I wonder what the point of senior year is. Why must they torment us with a 12th year when they know damn well noone is doind anything. We haven't done any real work all year. In my history class we watch movies EVERY day. English, we did work but who cares. I didn't take math, but I took physics. Physics in my school is a joke. Our final is going to Six Flags. We go to six flags, and they give us a test. The great thing is my teacher gives us ALL of the test answers on the bus ride home. |

I've learned some stuff in school; I won't deny that.
However, I find that I have learned far more outside of school. When I used to read a lot, watch news constantly, and do similar things, I was learning a lot. Now that a lot of my time is taken up with my job and homework, I find myself learning less and less. I used to be way ahead of everyone else as far as knowledge goes. Now they're all catching up... kind of. |

I don't mind school. I'm home schooled and some days I can get out
around 12:30am or some thing. Depends on how focused I am. I'm in 7th
grade doing 9th grade science and history with my older sister. we also
share the same math. I really don't have that dull off a life like most
people think.
