Stocks are pretty much a waste of money. the $60 you spend on the stock could go twards a good upgrade that does something.

JCS Dual Trigger
DOP X-CORE 8 stage x-chamber
Lapco Bigshot 14" Beadblasted

Optional setup:

it depends on weather or not you need the point of contact.

i am gonna dissagree with YWSE (don't do that often)

i know alot of people who use the stock as an easier way to steady the marker. theres a reason real firearms have stocks.

if you plays woods and are into the mil/sim look, a stock mightbe right up your alley. a stock can add a great look to you gun as well as some function.

but for speedball, theres no pont.

when picking a stock, you should try to use one that sits into your style of play and your marker look. the adjustible ones are nice because you can keep it close or open it up. i like my SAW stock alot. some are gas through, some have RVA's
you need to decied what options you want first.

i think that stocks are a waste of money.they do nothing for your gun. they get in the way. i would take the money that you are going to spend on that and buy a upgrade.

remember, there are two different types of paintball, speed and woods. alot of things are a waste for speed ball. but can come in handy in woods. don't knock it just becasue your 12 and play speedball.

not refering to you YWSE

what is an illedged waste of money in speedball?...

its kind of the point to have a fast gun with the least amount of junk on it that is just dead weight and gets in the way, for atleast speedball

personally if i was playing in the woods i would use my cocker over some crap with a whole bunch of plastic garbage all over it (no offence to tippmanns because they can be quite nice when they dont have crap hanging off of them)

I used a stock once on a 98 and it was, in face pointless.

Regardless of what people say, using the sights on a paintball marker are useful. With a mask on, and a stock on the marker, it makes using your sights near to impossible.

If you're going to put a stock on, get a raised sight rail too. It'll help a little, though not a whole lot.

The tank on the stock adaptor works well enough for stability, plus it allows you to use your sights.

Dont real guns have stocks becuase they have a lot of kick? Isn't it to steady the gun? If so then think how much kick paintball guns have to real guns...

not much so its kinda pointless in my opinion

the kick produced by a firearm is a major reason for the stock. true. but aiming and steadying the weapon is also achieved through a stock. like i said, you can get away without one, but it adds one more point of contact for aiming and add a new look.

there is no right or wrong

The weakest link on a stock is where it connects to the gun. Take a close look at that joint and make sure it's strong before laying down the money. If that joint is weak, the stock will wobble and negate any stability it might have offered. Furthermore, the stock might snap at that joint.

If you want a stock, go for it. Aiming will definitely be an issue with a stock though, so figure on another $50 to raise the sights. Alternatively, you could get an air-through stock that screws into the ASA. Check Ebay for air-through stocks.

jmstallard is correct. some wobble, but its not usually becuase of the stock, usually its because of the recives halves. our wonderful company, tippmann, as much as i love their products don't make every 98 or A-5 to the exact same size at a couple of points. the tombstone and end cap area. there are stocks that help with sighting. some have areas cut out so that your mask fits into them, allowing you to see down the rail. specialops and opsgear have them. they aren't any more. infact, most are being made with that in mind.

my friend built a stock out of a big piece of dowel, some pvc pipe, and another piece of wood. it doesn't look all that cool, but he says it helps stability.

I have a tapco m4 style stock and I hate it, and I havent even played a game with it, mainly because with a mask on, it's just a big pain in the ass, and just gets in the way.  On the other hand, I made a stock out of wood that I fitted to myself, and it is lower than the m4 one so I can see down the sites, and I wouldnt play without it.  It makes my aim much better, I can snapshoot much easier, and it's much lighter than having a tank on the back.  It all depends on your style of play!
My 98-custom:

-Lapco Bigshot 12"
-Custom Wood Stock
-Remote Line
-Trigger mods and polished internals

I owned an A-5 Commando Stock. I wouldn't recommend that one, been having problems with it retracting when you fire the gun.

Its mostly preference, stocks are nice for playing woodsball when you have a raised sight.

For speedball, i wouldn't recommend a stock.

why the heck do you guys try to use your sights, if you know your gun well enough you just look down the side of the barrel and know exactly what trajectory your gun shoots each and every time. stocks are awesome for woods because you can make the impossable shots a reality combined with a flatline. all that stuff people say about stocks getting in the way of your mask is crap if you just aim down the side of your barrel and watch your paintball fly, adjusting accordingly. with a red dot sight you dont even have to get your face near your gun, keep both eyes open and the dot becomes part of the background, almost as if your sitting in your house playing a video game or somthing. full auto fire with a stock is 10 times better than without one also. speedball has no need for a stock, but i guarantee if you ever run into an experianced player in the woods with a stock, your ganna be tasting that sweet sweet paint.

If you're going to get a stock, you'd better know how to use it.

A stock has advantages- it lowers the height of your gun, allows for better stabilization (last I checked my shoulder wasn't bowl-shaped to hold a tank steady), and elminates recoil on a device with lower recoil than an actual gun.

Sure, you can't use the sights, but have you not read any magazine articles? You're supposed to be snap shooting, not setting up shop and squinting your eyes down a sight to take a shot.

I play speedball with a stock. I haven't noticed the field blowing up or all the paint on the field suddenly become violently drawn to me. Nor do I have even a slight problem with a stock. I know how to use it.

Only problem is you'll need a remote line. It is ten times difficult to use a stock with a tank attached to the gun. And with a remote line you'll need a harness with a spot for your tank.

I have tendonitis in my wrists. It is easier for me to hold the weight of the gun with one hand and a shoulder than trying to hold the gun with my trigger hand that is supposed to be working on pulling the trigger.

If you don't know how to use a stock, don't use one or rate how bad a stock was because you couldn't use it. It's like saying Autocockers suck because you don't know how to use it.

He asked for real opinions anyway.
