im thinking about getting an 05 vert, and ive been hearing some crap on timing the trigger pull and 3-way. now, ive been running a mech 98 almost all my life, and i have no knowledge whatsoever on autocockers. basically, im asking this: how easy is it to time an 05 vert with stock pneumatics and is it a beginner friendly gun (meaning will it be too easy to short stroke and can i run it off co2?)

Cockers require a willingness to learn how your gun works, and a willingness to tweak it when needed.  If you don't fit that description, then a cocker is not for you.

Exactly how hard it is to time the gun depends mostly on the 3-way - the PB guns are pretty easy to tweak.

It's not rocket science, and if you are willing to learn you'll be fine.  Just don't expect it to "just work" like your Tippmann.  If you've opened up your 98 a couple of times and that didn't scare you, then a cocker won't scare you either.

It's the people who have never taken their guns apart that shouldn't be shooting cockers.

The thing about timing is that it's not just to make it work - it's to make it work WELL.  The PB guns shoot fine out of the box, for instance, but with some tweaking (timing) you could shorten the trigger pull quite a bit.  And that's the joy of the cocker - getting it to work just the way you like it.
