I went paintballing today with my girlfriend and finally tried out the
A-5. IT WAS AMAZING to say the least. The weight wasn't a problem at
all on the field, though I seemed to naturally hold the gun lower and
point down when I was looking around rather than keep it shouldered.
The main reasons I feel I was successful:
1. The A-5 ran extremely smooth (though I did polish the internals) and it never broke a single ball. Using co2, I managed to hit the crono 3 times in a row with the same velocity (227, max was 230). Not to mention it sounded really awesome when it fired, and very intimidating with the response trigger. 2. The Response Trigger worked like a charm. It felt like it had to be broken in a bit, didn't work much in the beginning, but it may have just been that I had to get used to it. I turned it up all the way and find it very hard to maintain, i could only fire very VERY short bursts, but that burst normally contained atleast 6-7 shots, making it easy to hit a running opponent. (Do I still need to get used to it or is this normal?) 3. The APEX Barrel worked amazingly. I did not use any of the "trick" shots, but I did use the dialer. I was playing in a 34,000 sqft urban arena, but it was too densely packed for it to make any sence to fire all that far. When I set it on setting 2 or 3, the shots came out perfectly straight, and were incredibly accurate. When I put it to the "off" setting, it was even more accurate, but curved down like a regular barrel, so it was most reliable for short range and extreme accuracy. 4. The Red Dot sight. It worked VERY well. It didn't get hit, so I can't say if it's durable enough, but it made target aquisition SO incredibly easy. I aimed to test fire after setting it up, and shot, but didn't see the ball... after moving, I noticed a splat of paint directly behind the red dot it was really awesome.5. My modified hopper took a direct hit and didn't get damaged, so I'm happy with the job I did. It made it much quieter while moving, and also allowed me to see exactly how much ammo I had left. It also perfectly fulfilled it's role in keeping out of my red dot's way. I was able to hit VERY small targets from about half the field's distance within about 2 shots (like someones head poking out a corner of a window). We played a game called "starship troopers", one team was the marines the other was aliens. The marines had one life, aliens were unlimited, but had to return to the back wall when hit. The goal of the aliens was to capture a briefcase. I made it my duty to properly defend this briefcase as I was one of the few non-renters, and had the response
I felt very sorry for the one guy who actually had the guts to run for
the briefcase. After the game he told me I hit him once in the hand
that was holding it, once in the elbow, and about 7 times in his back
I couldn't help laughing and having fun but I apologized, because I
really only needed to shoot him once or twice. He was an owner so I
didn't feel bad ![]() Now that I think about it, after putting $700 CDN into this gun, IT BETTER BE GOOD :P I am not upset with my choice of a Tippmann, and my best friend got a custom pro because of my advice. I just ordered a custom pro for my girlfriend online this morning too, should be here in a few weeks :) Can't wait to go back on friday with all my friends!!! Click Here For Pics!!! He said it was densely packed urban play. The field owners probably brought it down so no one got hurt. |

If you can only sustain short bursts you need to tweak your RT some. You don't want it "all the way up" - too high or too low is no good. Turn it down some and see if that helps. It's all about finding the spot that works for you. Glad you had fun! |

thanks! alright i'll give it a try when I go on friday and see if i can figure it out... by turning it down will it actually yield a lower rate of fire or will it just be easier to control? I'm wasting too much paint and would prefer to set it to somewhere around 10 bps or something. Firing fast isn't important to me. |

It's a tradeoff. The lower the rate of fire, the easier it will be to maintain. At 10 bps you should easily be able to sustain unlimited full auto. Heck, you should be able to do that at 12-15 bps.

Best way to use your RT is to use the stock trigger and squeeze the
very bottom of the trigger, youll achieve the "bounce effect" easier.
When I had my A-5 RT I had the tuning screw for the RT out maybee 2
threads and did what I mentioned above, I easily hit 11bps with lil
effort.

I just decided to screw back on my 20 oz while my mom went out, and you guys were right. I had the response tuned too high, and it was really easy to maintain a high rof after i put it to about 2-3 threads sticking out. There must have been something wrong with it at first or it had to be broken in, cause when I first tried it i couldn't even feel it push back, so i turned it all the way up... once it started workign right, it was too much to control.
