I'm not going to waste my time with a scope, and just go directly to a red dot for target accuracy. are Lasers good? distance? can you see the dot fairly well during the day? what rails do i need? What do you recommend for an A5?

im not sure what you need, but IMO id not go for a red dot, you would most likely take your shot, before you were even able to see the red dot. i have not used 1 so im not sure, just the whole scope and red dot stuff for paintball doesnt make any sense to me, you shouldnt be taking shots when you need to take a lot of time to line up, you should just "feel" it

Yeah, I really wouldn't worry too much with a scope or dot sight. Unless you are turning your marker into a milsim marker. Even then it's just mostly for looks. You should practice until you can just pop your marker up and hit what you're looking at without aiming. Or at least get close with the first shot and hit it with the second and third shot. It just takes practice. You really don't have time to aim in a fast paced game like speedball or even most woodsball games.

Red Dots work well as you use them with both eyes open. The dot just gets imposed on the target in your field of vision. Don't know on the A-5 mount. The BSA Red Dots are available with either the 3/8" or the Weaver (7/8") clamping system. As for the laser, I have tried several and the ones that are eye safe are not visible in the daylight. Maybe a special pair of lenses would make the laser dot visible in the daylight, but nothing I have tried has worked.
Feel it?...like in "Use the Force, Luke!" Everyone "walks" the paint on target, taking two to three shots, or sights down the side of the barrel. The red dot with a little practise allows for first shot on target with less delay than walking that second or third ball. Edited by Bruce A. Frank - 20 March 2006 at 12:50am |

Keep in mind, with Red Dot sights, as with everything, you get what you pay for. Quality will vary greatly from cheapo to professional Red Dot sights.

I am not going to waste my money on a red dot or a scope, I am just going to perfect the aim set up for my A5, and get used to where the ball goes when I shoot it.

I still own a $250 red dot and several BSA $30 red dot sites. I can find no difference in performance. |

Red dots work, if they fit your style and your eyes. Mostly a matter of preference. Will require a bit of practice. Lasers are useless (but cool). Scopes can be nifty for target-spotting/ID, but useless for actual aiming. |

I definately see a difference between the el cheapo $12 Daisy BB Gun Red Dot sight and a $30-50 BSA Red Dot. |

I should have qualified that some then, NONE of the open style red dot sights, like the Daisy, are suitable for paintball. Paint can get places from which it really is virutally impossible to clean. The Daisy, and others like it...in that price range, will not hold settings very well. I bought three off Ebay for $3 each...which is about what they are worth. The good "Cheap" sights are the BSA enclosed red dot designed for the 22 rifle costing (Cabelas) about $20. |
