Topic: A5 Setup QuestionPosted: 29 March 2006 at 7:52pm |

I have been experimenting with differnt mods while setting up my A5/Flatline to a more personal choice for strictly woodland use. So far I have... A5 Flatline, JCS Red Hot Power Tube/ Delrin Bolt, Pen Mod, Capri-Sun Mod, A piece of CD case for a trigger stop, Polished internals, R/T and have recently put in th Red Spring from the Maddman Kit. Originally before the Red spring and R/T, I must say that I was over 280 (not exactly sure how much, 320 I think) and having same if not better results than a stock A5 with flatline. This includes welts on people at a farther distance. I don't believe in using the R/T because I do not believe in 300 shots for 1 kill. (russian sniper thought "While invisible, I see and destroy." ) but lately, kids actually think that the marker is the most important part of the game and are going speedball in the jungle. The worst part is that the more they mod their guns, the more they hide and wipe themselves. Our team has decided to start a class of Woodland 101. I will be trying out the R/T with red spring this weekend (hopefully) and I was wondering if anyone with a flatline has used this spring combined with R/T. The red spring is supposed to increase 30 fps and is shure to hit a little harder with a little distance. Any thoughts or suggestions to this setup? If interested, I will udpate my results. Just because you aren't at a park to get chronoed, you assume that "hey, the rules were made by a bunch of dumb guys that don't know what they're talking about." Those limits on fps at parks are set for a reason. That reason is for the safety of the players in the game. Bragging about bigger welts leads me to believe that you are shooting hotter than you think if you are at "farther distances." Try to use a bit more responsibility and play by park rules even if you aren't at a park. |

this is where everything began. First of all, it's not a park, it's actually a wooded are next to my apartment complex. When we first started playing there, everything was fine. As word got around and more people came by, we started noticing people wiping themselves and shooting at others within ten feet. We have always continued to paly by the rules and have just decided to stop putting up with what has been going on and sort teach a lesson. As far as the chrono, it was verified at a shop. As far as responsibility, I say that to the ones that shooting with velocity at the extreme with no respect to the rules. You would be surprised as the things that we see...It sort of takes the nature out of true woodsball. |

We are even the ones who clean up the area so the owner of the land doesn't close it off.

Well, to be accurate in your velocity department, you have to chrono it every time you gas up. Any little thing can knock your velocity off by a lot more than you could ever imagine. And if you are shooting at 320 like you say, that is 40 more than what is normally legal at parks. Lets see, 40 FEET PER SECOND more. Think about getting hit with a rock thrown at 40 fps. It would hurt like hell. Now put the rock in the same equation that you are looking at and look what you have.
You are probably running a whole lot hotter than you think you are if you are putting welps on people at "far distances."

Shooting people from less then ten feet is part of the game, it's called bunkering.
Shooting hot is not part of the game, you shouldn't even be playing.. |

The worst part is that the more they mod their guns, the more they hide and wipe themselves.
This is because they spend all their money on mods and cant affoard to shoot alot of paint. ![]() |

As for this, our area rules state that less than 10 feet calls for surrender... |

The velocity thing makes sense, I accept that I am over normal standards and am hitting harder than called for. But th epoint is that when the other people arrive to play, you'll see them crank up their velocity screws without knowing what they are actually doing. The funny thing is that later they don't understand why their marker is acting up and shooting strange. I was wondering about how the red spring would react on with my marker combination. I am not looking to increase fps or anything just overall performance...any suggestions? |

You and your friends do not deserve to own markers. Are you waiting for someone to die and then the responsible paintball community takes all the blame?
I don't think anyone here will agree to help you until you start following the most important rules of this sport. As for other people playing and turning their velocity up, you are an idiot for playing with them. Paintball masks are meant to withstand 300fps at close range, they are not shatter proof, and your eyes are not plastic-shard proof. |

3hb78ftg, You can purchase a hand held chrono and if I were you I would let everyone know that to play all markers WILL be at 280fps or less or they will not be playing. If you are out numbered and they (the bad ones) do not want to follow the rules, take your group elsewhere and play if possible. Cranking your marker up to be like them is not the best thing to do. As others have said, if you put someones eye out with your marker at these high levels of FPS could end you up in a hell of a lawsuit and just the thought that you did it, not to mention what the media will do to all of paintball. Just be very sensible about what you do, not just for yourself but for all of us who play because we do not need a bunch of negative exposure. I play with a guy who brings his own chrono and we all have to be at 275fps or less or he will not let us play with them. There is about 40 or so of them and well if someone tries to cheat the system they are ask nicely to leave, the first time. After the first time, well lets just say that the numbers are on our side and safety is primary to us. No one is going to get a chance to shoot at me with a really hot gun without some form of, oh lets say justice afterwords, if you know what I mean. I am not trying to say that you threaten them but try to explain to them why and these are the rules, follow them or leave. |

Bonus balling is just as stupid as shooting hot.. I don't see why lighting a guy up at close range with 12 paintballs is funny |

You guys are right to a point. We have been running hotter but only against the abusve teams... We have decided that we are going to take our groups somewhere else to a new area. This past weekend we noticed that things are getting out of hand. A 16 man (abusive) team would not split up and went against 9 others...Before I continue, I would like to add that this is an insult to the intelligence of a rock by accepting the challenge... It was a MASSACRE. I actually witnessed 4 going point blank on 1 while assuming a fetal position screaming for them to stop. Anyway I realize that we have gotten a little sidetracked and will just take our groups somewhere else...besides with these abusive groups playing, paintballing has lost its fun and no one wants to play. As far as my mods...I had to reduced the fps because, besides having an enormous recoil, my flatine was breaking paint. I have further modded my trigger to where my R/T is putting out really nice without have to adjust the valve any. I took out the pin with the Capri-Sun straw and bought a ornamental screw with L shaped hook at Home Depot. I then cut it down with a dremel, grinded down the edges and from about 8 bps jumped to around 12 bps (I don't use the R/T wide open). I have decided to go with the 2x trigger because if I want to shoot single shots I use the lower part and when I want to go all out I just use the top part. Before finishing my trigger, I was actually going to remove the R/T, now I will not remove it even if you paid me and I have 3 friends who want me to do the same for theirs... For those whose thoughts and opinions helped put some of us back on track...THANKS. I will continue to make changes and keep the results posted. I will be experimenting with the Super R/T and QEV as soon as it arrives.

Just remeber this was a leson so DO NOT do the same thing next time.
And remeber if an abusive group shows up where you are playing find a more secluded area to play and make it so that it would not seem like anyone plays there that way no one comes unless you invite them Just my $.02 most of all make sure EVERYONE is having fun |
