So I got a new comp on ebay the other day. Not bad, 3.1 ghz, a gig of memory, 160gig hard drive. Anyway, it only has integrated graphic, so I need a new card....I'ma use my GeForce FX 5500 for now, and I can probably stay with it if I need to, but I just figured I'd get some suggestions on a different one, since I'm takin the Geforce out of my grandpa's comp. I'm lookin for something around 150 bucks, btw...thanks.

Well, is it AGP or PCI Express?

The 5500 is PCI, the new comp has both slots open so...

But what kind of graphics slot does it have? PCI and PCI-E are different. PCI-E and AGP are graphics slots.

Anyway, glad to see you finally got a decent compy.

I'd probly go with 7600GT, I think they're around $150, don't remember atm

Edit: Closer to $170, nevermind

Edit 2: X1600XTs are around $140, looks like they have about the same specs as the 7600GTs. Memory runs a little slower.

The X1600 is a far superior card to the 7600gt. From what I've read.

I'm looking for some benchmarks now, but I don't think there would be a very big difference between the cards, they both have 12 pixel pipelines and both have a core speed of around 580MHz.

Edit: benchmarks found http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2812&p=7

On the low end, we've got the stock 7600 GT for just over $160, which offers playable midrange performance at a low price. While the X1600 XT is about $15 cheaper, performance is abysmal. There is no reason anyone should purchase an X1600 XT at this point. With a really tight budget, the 7600 GT offers adequate gaming performance. Overclocked 7600 GT parts are just not worth the price as they don't offer any significant performance gain for the $30 premium. The X1900 GT, however, offers a whole lot more value for the additional $60 over a stock 7600 GT.

Hmmm my mistake. Maybe I was thinking of the X1900?

An x1900 would deffintly blow a 7600GT out of the water, but those are around $300, so a bit out of the price range, lol. If you can go for $170, it looks like 7600GT 4TW

Edit: More benchmarks http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/15/graphics_card_buyers_ guide_2006_part3/page38.html#age_of_empire_3

If you got AGP you'll probly want to go with a 7600GS for around $140
