Oklahoma D-Day 07

At this point, Oklahoma D-day is still over 5 months months away - June 4-10. But the 82nd Airborne is hard at work organizing and looking for talented scenario teams and players that want to play in the world's largest event, with one of the best units on the field (and one based on a real world Division with an extraordinary and honored history).

The game in Wyandotte, Oklahoma is played on a 750 acre field with over 4000 players, 40 tanks, planes and armored vehicles, mortars, flame throwers, water landings, villages, hills, valleys, airplane props, creeks and ponds. The Allies have American, French, British and Canadian units.

The 82nd will be well organized and prepared. It will consist of 5 regiments which actually participated in the actual invasion on June 6, 1994. The unit is limited in size and it's "first come first served" as far as registration and picking your unit. The 82nd always has a lot of former and current military, LEO's, and top scenario players. This year is no different.

At D-day our Division will consist of about 250 people broken down into 5 historically accurate Regiments.

505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR)
507th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR)
508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR)
325th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR)
504th Pathfinders

The Pathfinders, PIR's and GIR's will have roles based on their history and means of insertion.

We're still looking for teams and players who have what it takes. That means being dropped behind German lines, surrounded, possibly outnumbered, and having to fight our way to link up with the rest of our Corp. The terrain is the toughest at D-day and the Germans will put their best units against us. If this sounds like your type of unit, then come join us as part of the "Tip of the Spear"

And I know the Allies are always looking for more tanks and armor for the American 3rd Armor Division and their British and Canadian counterparts.

It's part of a site giving tribute to a member of the 504th PIR KIA in Operation Market Garden in Holland. The 504th didn't participate as a whole regiment in the Normandy, landing after seeing action in Italy, but portions of the regiment were used as the Pathfinders element.

The 82nd in 2007 will be the "tip of the spear" in many ways. The unit is about 1/2 full and this is the time it usually starts filling up. Overall registration at D-day is up about 300% from last year and the 82nd is up almost 500% at this point.

The 82nd, and the rest of the Allies, will be well organized, prepared and equipped this year. This is a great year for OK D-day. It's their 10th anniversary. It should be an awesome game.

If you want to be in a hard hitting, intense, honorable, unit you should consider the 82nd. We'll take the field first and be the last to leave. And we'll see more of the field and action than any other unit. There is no obstacle course for the 82nd this year, but there is a minimum age limit of 15. There will be an Advanced Airborne Assault course for the 82nd on Friday morning.

Also, within the 82nd are the 82nd Pathfinders. This is the elite of the elite unit of the 82nd. This unit requires participation in the obstacle course on Wednesday, and the unit is almost full. So if this is your interest, you need to register soon.

And there are lots of other great allied units as well - British, Canadian, French, US 1st ID, 3rd Armor, Rangers, etc.

Andy also mentioned a small, little known, new unit; SOE/OSS teams. Check privately with him for details. The OSS in WW2 was the beginning of our CIA in many ways.

Some units fill up very quickly. The 82nd and the 101st Pathfinders are very close to being full. The 82nd Division, the parent unit for the 82nd Pathfinders, is getting close too. I would think the 101st is getting close also. The Rangers always fill up fast.

And we'd always welcome you in our 82nd Division. As you can tell, this is one of the more organized paintball events in the world.

I just returned from a staff meeting at the field and WOW! They are working on some very cool projects. They have broken ground for the new restrooms/showers and the new airfill building. A new well is being drilled to suport it. Hopefully it will hit great water without sulfur. No way to know in advance. They're also moving dirt to create the lake for the actual water landings at Utah. Those are two that I saw first hand. They have lots of other things going on too.

Special Ops has two things going on that will affect OKlahoma D-day. Special Ops will be putting the D-day video in the March issue of APG Magazine. It's a great video. This is a clip of part of it.

I would assume that this will increase the rate that people register, so if you've been procrastinating it may be time to register. I want to make sure that everyone who wants to be in the 82nd (or any specific unit) has the chance to do so.

And this year Spec Ops will be playing on the Allied side. Their two tanks will be landing at Utah Beach with the 4th ID and the 3rd Armor. They have two of the best tanks. The Panzerwagon can be seen in the video link. Obviously it will have to be renamed for 2007

The update on the 82nd is that there are only about 50 spots left from the original 250. This is one of the premier Allied units and always fills quickly. Contact me if you have specific questions.
