And no, I don't mean illicitly.....
My girlfriend (wonderful woman that she is) got me a Peterson System 303 Rustic p-lip for my birthday back in December. I'd just like to say that it is the coolest smoking, most comfortable and well-drawing pipe that I've ever had the pleasure of smoking. That said, what do you guys smoke (if any of you do) |

I smoke a Peterson 221 natural finish. http://www.peterson.ie/product.asp?productID=245
The picture shows the shape and style, but mine has a rough pebbled finish instead of the polished. Very nice. Actually, its an Emerald Rustic 221, which they dont even have on their website anymore. Edited by Enos Shenk - 30 January 2007 at 5:06pm |

Yeah, I've got the rough-finish as well, but in the 303 type. Do you like your peterson better than other pipes E.S?

Beautiful pipe you have there. I picked up a $40 pipe from a tobacco shop around here. Let me grab my camera.
What flavors do you smoke? I mixed an espresso blend with a mildly sweet dark tobacco. It is the smoothest blend I've tried so far. To add, my dad gave me his old humidor. Fun thing was his old pipe tobacco is still in there, it is about 10 years old maybe a little younger, just a tad bit dry. I'm slowly reconstituting it, might try smoking it tonight. I'm looking into getting a Meerschaum pipe soon.. this one has me interested. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was so close to making a pipe thread last night.. |

I occasionally smoke some English/Scottish tobacco, but the piquant aroma of it gets to me fairly quickly. I like cherry/vanilla/chocolate/rum flavors. I've got a Scottish Tobacconist shop just up the street from the restaurant and they let me sample anything I want if I bring my pipe in.

I do, from time to time. I've made my own pipes as well. The first didn't come out well, but the second was great, and I gave it as a gift. They were freehand pipes. It's a great hobby, and I intend to do more of it.
I got pre-drilled briar and carved them out of the blocks. I'll hopefully soon have the bits I need to drill my own and can get more out of a block. It came out something like this:
The top of the bowl was a bit flatter, but still rough, and it had a nice dark finish. The stems are easy to bend to shape with a hairdryer. They're best made from high quality briar or meerschaum stone. Edited by reifidom - 30 January 2007 at 6:10pm |

My Bewlay "popular" 510 and some fine Cuban cigars. I hardly use the pipe. Its just easyier to buy rolling papers and captain black cherry and smoke the pipe tobacco that way. I hardly smoke anything anymore. The wife hates it so much. HighVoltage- Good choice on the Backwoods Honey for a cheap cigar. How much do you pay for them? Its 13 dollars for a 5 pack here. I'm not as much into the stone pipes, but that style is my favorite. Once I get the bits to drill my own I'll be making some more specific styles.

Id love to take a stab at making a pipe. I just dont have much experience in woodworking. Although it would be fun to take a block of briar in to school and stick it in the CNC mill...
My tobacco of choice is a blend called Sweet Dreams from a tobacco shop here in town. Its a black tobacco, very mellow and smooth. |

You could do it. I had some experience with wood working, but not like this. I just picked a design and went with it. The only thing that can get you is a flaw in the wood at a bad point, such as near the bowl or where you want to stop carving. I used a saw to take off sections and narrow it down to near the form, then sanded and ground it down. A buffing wheel will apply the carnauba wax well enough for a great finish. Then you just have to break it in. |

Yeah my 8 pack was $4.35 at a cigarette store down the street. My grocery store sells them for $5.99, then again we rarely have the lowest prices... |
