Hi, everyone- A friend of mine is wanting to get into paintball, and I've recommended getting a 98 Custom (of course) with a response trig and a cyclone feeder. He's found a buddy with a good deal on a 98 (not a custom, just a regular 98, which I'd never actually heard of before), but I don't know whether to tell him to get it or not for fear of not being able to add the response and the cyclone. Anyone out there know the difference between a model 98 and a 98 custom? Thanks in advance!! |

The model 98 is the older version. I am not sure if you can get many upgrades for a model 98. I'll look around. |

Yes you can get upgrades for the model 98 http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/S tore/en/-/USD/BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=re0ObDuCzJcOIX0mTnzOxD FWvy8HcDtcQv8=?CategoryName=paintball-gun-parts-and-upgrades -tippmann-gun-upgrades-tippmann-model-98-parts most of if not all of the 98 custom upgrades will work on a model 98. |

Model 98's are for the most part the same. Although you cannot put Response tirggers, double triggers, E-Grips (E-Bolts will work though) and probably Cyclones on them without modification. Although, it is not very hard to mod them, it does require cutting, drilling, and fileing of the recievers.

Unless he likes doing some serious custom work to get some upgrades to work, getting a 98 custom instead of the model 98 is a better idea. They are basically the same gun but the 98 custom is designed to be easier to upgrade which is why they added the "custom" part to the name. Also, the newer guns come with ACT which is an awesome thing to have regardless of your experience level.
