Topic: A-5 CHOPPING PAINT - PLZ READPosted: 09 August 2007 at 2:55am |

I've been having problems with Chopping in my A-5 for a while now. I have an E-Grip with the A.P.E. Rampage Board capped @ 15bps. I have all the Tech-T Cyclone Upgrades (Vortex Mod, Lightening Rod and Quick Exhaust Piston Housing) and I also have an Eclipse Cocker QEV. At the time I was using Nelson Special Forces Paintballs. Here's my problem: My gun will fire a whole case and not chop a single ball in Semi-auto or response, but the instant I switch it up to 3-Round-Burst or Full-Auto it'll chop every 10-20 balls. As I stated above, I have my E-Grip capped @ 15bps and with all the TechT mods I have my Cyclone should be able to load atleast 20bps. So it's not because my Cyclone can't keep up to my grip. It's not because I was using cheap paint either... Nelson Special Forces is hardly cheap paint!... I really need some help with this because I've done the complete tear-down and re-assembly of my gun several times making sure everything is oiled/greased correctly but to no success. ANY Help/Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Edited by anti_5o - 09 August 2007 at 2:56am |

Welcome to the forum. Do you have the original front bolt? You might put that back to eliminate that as a potential cause. |

Thank you Rambino for posting. Yes, I have the Stock Bolt. Replacing my JCS Hexadecagon Front Bolt with the Stock Tippmann Front Bolt would mean I would also have to replace the JCS Red Hot Powertube with the Stock Tippmann Powertube since the Stock Tippmann Front Bolt doesn't fit properly on the JCS Red Hot Powertube. Having to replace both my Front Bolt & Powertube would be extremely frustrating since I bought the JCS Red Hot Powertube to replace the plastic Stock Tippmann Powertube. But I will give your suggestion a try. If it does solves the chopping problem, how could I tell if it's the JCS Hex. front Bolt that's causing the chopping or the JCS Red Hot Powertube? If anyone else has any other suggestions/comments PLEASE post! I could use any info you have. Thank you! |

If changing the front bolt and powertube solves the problem then it's likely just the front bolt at fault since that is what contacts the paint. If I'm not mistaken, I think I've heard of this problem before with that upgrade. Have you checked out JCS's site or emailed them about it? I believe I read something from JCS about this and it was a known issue that could be fixed.
EDIT: Check this out. Has some info on the issue I was referring to. Not sure if this is your problem but it may be helpful to know this info. EDIT AGAIN: Found the page I originally saw it on. This also has a little more info and details on how to fix it. They say that the powertube can sometimes cause blowback issues which may be why you are chopping. This is why you should stick with the stock internals.

Thank you to everyone who has posted! I replaced the JCS Red Hot Powertube & Hex. front Bolt with the Stock Tippmann Powertube & Front Bolt. I chronoed my gun at 250-260 and set my APE Board to Full-Auto @ 15BPS. I pulled the trigger and got about 20 shots off and CHOP! I clean out the barrel and slap it back on. Squeeze a few more rounds off... about 15... CHOP! At this point, I'm not surprised. I just don't understand... The only thing I can think of that could be causing the problem is the Barrel I'm using. Now you're all going to laugh but I'm using the Stock Tippmann A5 barrel. I know, Hahahaha.... But you'd think that a barrel made for THAT gun being used at it's stock peak performance would be able to keep up... But I guess not. I've been looking at the Lapco 8" Bigshot with Fake Suppressor to keep with the MP5 look of my A5. I've also been thinking that since I'm still using the QEV along with the QEPH, maybe too much air is being Exhausted before the Lightening Rod has a chance to make the ratchet do a full cycle causing the Cyclone to "Half-Feed" a paintball into the Chamber. There's no evidence of paintball Shell in the Cyclone but it is covered in paint on the inside. There's no evidence of the Ratchet "Half-Feeding" when there's no paint in the Cyclone but that might change with the actual resistance of the Paintballs in it. Maybe I should consider removing the QEV...? If anyone has any Comments or suggestions, PLEASE post! Thank you! Edited by anti_5o - 14 August 2007 at 2:57pm |

I would definitely try removing the QEV since, as you said, that could be causing it to misfeed. It's not likely that the barrel is causing the breaks but I guess it's not impossible either. Are you using fresh paint? Also, is the front bolt actually crushing the ball in the breech or is the paint breaking in the barrel on its way out? If the paint is popping in the barrel then the problem is probably not related to the cyclone at all. Whether the barrel is causing problems or not though, you'll probably be better off getting something else anyway just for the extra accuracy. Try the QEV first, then better paint (if possible), and then try the new barrel.

Thank you again Mod98commando! I'll take off the QEV and see what that does for me. I'm thinking I might need some thicker Shelled paint too... Such as Nelson Hemorrhage... Thicker Shelled paintballs and a new barrel ought to do it.... HOPEFULLY. |
