A5 is better by far, not only can you make it look better, but it can out-perform any alpha black out there. But the alpha black is good for beginners or people who don't have much money.

Stock, it will be just as good as the a5 (for much less money) The a5 can be upgraded to be a lot better but this is costly and in the end, you may as well have bought a different marker. If you want the m16 millsim look, than it is absoultely fantasic and the egripped decked out version is one of the best deals in paintball. If you aren't into millsim, than it isin't for you. Though come to think of it, if you are planning on upgrading a lot and aren't into millsim, a tippmann probably isin't your best bet anyways. |

The Alpha Black is a great entry level gun.
Off the Box the A-5 wins hand down since it comes with the Cyclone Feed System and the many options that you have on Upgrading the Gun that has taken the title away from the 98 as the 'main line Tippmann'. I have 2 A-5's, 1 X-7, 2 98's and one Alpha Black and while I really like my Alpha Black I still field a X-7 E grip as my primary. |

What EE said. I basically have one of every Tippmann, and I prefer the A-5 platform as well (A-5 RT in my case, although the EX-7 is a close second). The Alpha Black is basically the same gun inside and will shoot well, but the trappings do matter.
