So, as many of you know my sisters car got broken into a couple of days ago, well now his has turned into an even bigger problem through out the neighborhood. I know that the night my sisters car was broken into, that at least 4 other cars were broken into. Now just last night, Farcry's car got broken into who is a member here as well. So I am trying to figure out if there is anything I can do to help catch this guy, I have plenty of friend who are willing to help me out. The problem is, the only pattern I can find with these guys, is the direction in which they are moving across the neighborhood. I came here not only to vent, but to see if you guys can help me find a pattern with what these guys are looking for. At first I thought it was laptops, well that is proving to be untrue, seeing as there was nothing in farcrys car that resembled a laptop bag/laptop. The other weird part about it, was that there was an xm radio and a few other gadgets sitting on the dash that they didn't take. So I am just trying to figure out if you can help me a find a method to there madness, feel free to ask any question. But please post if an only if you are actually trying to help me, because so far the sheriffs office has done nothing, they haven't even up'd the patrolling of my neighborhood, so I am finally going to do something about it, because what they are doing is really wrong.

They're car shopping. They want easy targets, you just have to keep a sharp eye out.

Have they taken anything? If not, maybe they just want to create havoc and make people mad?

... hmm.. not taken anything, magnum is probably right... they probably are just shopping around seeing what cars they like and how much "security" your neighbor has.

Edit: But yeah, Try and hide a Video camera in one of the Cars that haven't been hit yet, and 1 or 2 that have been hit. You might beable to catch a glimpse of these low life's.

***MAKE SURE YOU HIDE THE CAMERA! DON'T LET IT SIT OUT IN THE OPEN!***

Kid at school went car shopping and first car he hit had $700 in it. Him and the guy with him split it and spent it at a mall in one day. People are starting to siphon gas again. So watch that as well.

After hearing about people starting to take it again, I'm thinking of getting one. I don't live near any people but it can't hurt.

Ya, I am not planning to attack this guy, I just wanna get a pic of him, and if they have a car get the plates. I have a friend who is willing to put up his crappy sony vaio as bait, and I am willing to put my truck out there. I then want to have them try to break in, then get a shot of them, and a shot of the plates then scare them off. If they break the window it wouldn't be to big of a deal, because i can get a new one and put it in my self for about 16 bucks.

Not much you can do. I would assume that they are just going through random cars that appear to be insecure, and just taking whatever looks appealing. Although it is very strange that they didn't take the XM radio; maybe they got scared off before they could grab it, or maybe they didn't know how to disable it from the dash?

Anyways, just make sure nothing valuable is in your car, keep it locked, and keep any outdoor lights you have on all night every night.

Instead of notifying the proper law enforcement, you should probably do something reckless and harmful with a large chance that you will severely hurt the wrong person. Make sure it is illegal as well, so you are the one going to jail and not an actual car thief.

The best advice the internet has to offer.

We had a group of youths locally who would vandalize random cars by breaking out windows.  Then they'd return within the next couple of days and take stereos and whatever else they could find out of the cars that hadn't had the glass replaced yet.

When I was young/stupid/still in high school my brothers brand new truck kept getting vandalized by some sophomores who had just recieved their licenses. What they would do is wait for his truck to be sitting outside of his (now)ex-grirlfriends house. When it was, they would drive by and throw butter and other types of annoyingly messy food condiments on his car which can actually do a number on the clear coat if left on for too long. Well, my brother was able to snag their license plate number and one night my best friend and I were bored and wanted to do something. We decided to go out and find this car, as slim of a chance as it were that we'd find it.

We hopped in my car and started looking for every White Ford Explorer that we could find to see if it had the plates. The brother of the ex-girfriend said he though he knew where the person lived who owned the car so we searched that neighborhood high and low. The last Cul De Sac that we searched had the car in it. We let the air out of all four tires and I pulled two of the stems out so they woulnd't have a choice but to tow it to a place that could replace them.

Childish? Yes, but I was younger then. Also, the kids never vandalized my brothers truck after I gave them a taste of what it was like to have your own vehicle messed with.

If you want a good chance of catching these guys I would write down the plates of every car that drives through your neighborhood after hours. Chances are they wouldn't park the car right next to the job they were doing as it would make it easier for someone to run out and write the plates down. If they are 'pros' then they scout the neighborhood a few days in advance to see what cars and usually parked outside at night and look for any indicators of alarm systems that might detur them from busting up that car.

If you use your own car as bait, make sure you empty out EVERYTHING but your friends laptop. even take the change out of the change drawer.
