I read on a forum that the Flat line barrel didn't start working until around 260 fps is there any truth to that? My reason for asking is I've got one and it hooks & slices like a golf ball. Thks. Rick

I've heard that is the optimum velocity for the Flatline, but you should still be getting good results with a higher one. Make sure you're using decent paint and wind is not a factor.

I've tried 3 brands of paint and one will shoot better,but still not real good and nowhere near pin point or scope use.I do have a real good croney And I've set the gun @ 298 fps. When I got the gun it was set at 372 fps new. I did not want to get shot at that speed for shure. My book reads to set at below 300 fps. I new at this and got my sons telling me wrong. Thks. Rick |

The old style 98 Flatline Barrels generally worked best at velocities between 270 and 275 fps. The A5 Flatlines seemed to prefer velocities in the low to mid 260s. I have no experience with either the X7 or new 98 Flatlines. (From looking at the X7 Flatline barrels, I assume they would perform in a manner similar to the ones for the A5.)

298 is still fairly high, its safe to get hit at 298 fps, but most fields limit around 280. Also, the hooks and slices might just be because of the spin put on the ball by the flatline. Turn down the velocity a bit then try again. |

Flatlines increase your distance, but will do not increase accuracy. There are several threads about the flatline/apex barrel systems. People buy these thinking they will allow them to shoot 300ft away with "pinpoint" accuracy and it isn't possible. At this point, there are no products that allow increased distance and extreme accuracy. |

If the gun is right out the box new then you need to fire off a good number of rounds just to get the spring to break in. Buy some cheap paint and start shooting at cans or something, just to get the marker broken in. Eventually you should b able to set the velocity with ease. The hooking and slicing is going to happen with the flatline, no matter what. The extra range is at the cost of accuracy, and it lowers the chance of a break when you do get a hit at that extra range anyway.
