So i'm getting a nw red dot for UMP, and I am wondering if anyone  know which one out of these two would be better.

http://www.opticsplanet.net/tasco-1x30-reddot.html

or

http://www.opticsplanet.net/tasco-1x30-22-reddot.html

They are the same red dot except one is for shotguns and the other for .22's

Does anyone know if they wuill perform differently?

they are both pretty much the same thing, all that is different is the size of rail it will work on (dovetail or weaver).

i would get the Tasco Red Dot 1x30mm 5 MOA Matte Rifle Scope BKRD30 (include: Built-on dovetail rail to fit standard centerfire Weaver-style bases)

You get what you pay for in regards to optics. In my experience, with paintball markers, you don't want to get a very expensive one, the abuse isn't worth damaging one. I wouldn't spend more than 50 to 60 bucks on one. It's gonna get broken in the long run. There is a difference in performance with top models, but you wont need the advantages of a high speed optic system in paintball.

just go with one from walmart(brass eagle) i had one and it worked good. i dont see why anyone would spend alot of money on a dot sight for paintball. like lordtoast said there is a difference but you wont be shooting far enough to need an expensive one

I got one at Fleet Farm (I think they might only be in the mid-west) for $13.
It's just a Crossman (for an air rifle), but seems to work fine (easy to pick up the dot ant get on target relatively quickly).
You will probably need an offset rail which will cost you another $10-$30 though.
I wouldnt get an expensive one because you know it is going to get hit by paintballs. I'm not even sure if I'll leave mine on after trying it.
If you are thinking of going more expensive (maybe they are more durable or something?), put a cheapo on there first to see if you even want to use one.

Is there a lot of benefit to a red dot?  I have a stock and a 14" SP Linear barrel on an A5.  I like to take the long shots when I get the time.  Is a red dot worth it?

basicly red dots are for show, say you have a m4 (or any mil-sim) gun it kinda compleats the look, but then again some people just like to use them.
