I bought a pre assembled stealth off the internet, I installed an expansion chamber and response trigger, the BPS is up of course but the markers overall performance is down, accuracy has gone from 5 inch groups at 50 feet to three foot groups It also now behaves as though it is out of gas when there is still as much as six ounces in the tank, running on CO2.. are there adjustments I can make or is this the sacrifice I make for higher BPS Thankyou |

For a useful response you should try including more details about your marker. (I.e. barrel info, type of tank, modifications/upgrades, etc.)

maybe your bore to paint match is way off. If your running it with C02 that could be your average inconsistency issue.

Well it’s a stock stealth, so basically an A5 with a flatline barrel and a milisim style stock. With a 12 ounce CO2 tank The only upgrades so far are the expansion chamber, and the Response trigger, (not currently activated because of the loss of accuracy) I’m currently using XO Menace paint, what would be the best paint for a flatline? When I say the marker is behaving as though its out of gas, I don’t mean its doing the “fart of death”, it just doesn’t turn the feeder sprocket, there-for doesn’t fire. Any ideas on these things guys? Edited by johnc - 26 July 2008 at 6:18pm |

What is the bore size of that paint? What is the velocity setting of your marker?

Have you rechronoed after adding the RT? Check and make sure your FPS is correct. Are you using a different paint now, than before the mods? You say the R/T isn't activated. Do you just have it turned down, or have you disconnected it? Have you tried using the tank on the marker without the remote? Does the FPS change when you use the tank directly on the marker vs running through the remote? Did you have paint break in the Flatline and not clean it properly? When you added the R/T and reassembled it, did you oil the marker? If you oiled it too much, it could be affecting accuracy as well. The marker likes oil, the Flatline doesn't. Also, when you say the groupings are less accurate, is this when you are firing single shots or when firing higher BPS? Run through different configurations and see what happens. I’m in New Zealand and don’t have access easily to a chrono, I took it down to my local archery shop (an hour away) and tried to speed test it there but their device didn’t seem to want to pick up the balls, I clamp the gun like you would a rifle (I’m new to paintball, one year now this is my first quality marker) but Iv shot rifle and archery for a vey long time now, anyway I clamp the marker and move my target to test accuracy, ball performance, Iv only tried 6 kinds of paint so far as I have to order off the net, I find XO menace the best yet, Ill try Camo tech next. No, I have the airline to the RT discontented and the plug replaced, as well as putting back the hex screw and nut so as to avoid unnecessary pressure differences. My grouping problems accuer on single shots, the sweet spot would of course \ad to inconstancy’s but I’m still getting grouping problems without rapid fire. I try and keep oil away from the barrel. I read at a sight the other day that Boiling your barrel for a few minuets gets rid of dried paint very well, but I’m reluctant to try it, how ever I did poor boiling water down the barrel and then squeegee and it really did look cleaner.

You can buy handheld chronos from most paintball retailers for around $70.00usd. A pretty necessary investment if you are going to make mods.

I would suggest trying a straight barrel to improve accuracy. If you have an aftermarket barrel that would be best, but a stock barrel will work. Flatlines tend to sacrifice accuracy for distance, although I believe your paint is also hurting you in this situation.

I have heard or read so many different opinions about the flatline that Im starting to wish I hadn’t ask, though im just a forklift driver who never finshed high school, I have some basic knowledge of physics, I would think (and please tell me if Im wronge because I need to know) that the effect of backspin producing longer shots would also to some degree increase accuracy, I understand the formula for it and could look up the math’s myself then post it like I wrote it myself … X=y ,Sqt – V or some such bollacks, but that would be talking out my ass cause I don’t understand that much, however I don’t see how it could a bad thing, unless switching to one of the new rifled barrels would improve things? Perhaps a 16 inch ceramic? As I said iv only tried six different paints now (with this marker), as the nearest store with lots in stock is four hours drive away, but the menace is the best yet. What is your opinion on the paint best for the flatline?

The Flatline (F/L) effect does increase range through the use of the Magnus Effect. (The spin imparted to the ball from the F/L creates a layer of boundary turbulence in the air around the ball which alters the affects of the surrounding atmospheric pressure to produce lift.) However, it has to be kept in mind that this effect along with the propulsive forces involved and gravity are all acting on an imperfect projectile.
Paintballs are more malleable than bullets; the force of firing can actually cause their shape to alter in the barrel and immediately after departing the barrel. They are liquid filled as opposed to being solid which means that the exterior (shell) has the potential to react to external forces separate from the interior (fill). They are spherical which is not the best shape for projectiles. Finally, they are fired at relatively low velocities which means they have less inertia to combat external forces that may act upon them. All of these factors make paintballs inherently inaccurate. The additional range provided by the F/L just magnifies these inaccuracies. However, even with all of the above taken into account, a knowledgeable F/L user who has properly set up their marker and is lucky enough to be playing in perfect F/L conditions can makes some amazing eliminations. Usually though the F/L is a better tool for fire suppression than it is for employment as a paintball "sniper" system. |
