Co2 Tank Problems

Hi. I'm fairly new to paintball (started about 6 months ago) and I recently got my brother into playing with me and my BF. He bought a Tippmann 98 custom (ACT) pack from our local sports store. The problem is his Co2 tank. It keeps develeping to much pressure inside the tank, so that when you screw it on it will not pressurize. Is this some problem with the tank or the gun? I'm quite sure its the gun because I put my HPA tank on and it worked fine. We've already taken the tank back to the store once and changed the tank. And now its happend again. I know that Co2 expands when its heated but he just had his new tank filled and 20 minutes later was going to shot some paint and the same thing happend. I've told him that he should go the HPA way like I have, because you don't get problems like this and its much easier on your gun's internals, but he's hesitent to spend $60 on an HPA tank. His there anything he can do to depressurize his tank and prevent this from happening again? Thanks in advance for your help!   

if its a 20oz tank fill it for a 12oz that way when the 12oz of c02 expands it won't put that much pressure on the valve and it still works.

Negative. Even if you have 1oz of co2 left in the bottle, the overall pressure will be the same.

Ive never heard of a co2 tank "overpressurizing" and not releasing. The only thing, and I mean the ONLY thing that will prevent a tank from releasing any gas when its screwed on, is if the ASA is defective.

Sometimes the little nubbin inside the ASA that pushes on the pin of the tank valve is too short. If its a Tippmann gun, call them and tell them whats up, and theyll probably send you a new ASA for free.

Thanks for your help. The tank that he has is just the cheap 9oz one that comes with the starter kit. Buts it has to be something with the tank because my HPA tank works fine on the gun. The second thime it happend is that he filled his tank and as soon as he go thome he went out to shoot it and it didn't shoot. Could it have been that his tank was filled to full?

No.  It doesn't work that way.

That's one thing to try.  It still might be the tank, or a combination of the two.

The problem is that all this equipment is only built so exactly, and sometimes when two pieces are just a little bit off from the standard, they won't play nice together.

If it is the ASA, one way to find out would be to switch it with one from another gun.

This can be tested by backing the tank out a quarter turn at a time.  In many cases this is sufficient to allow CO2 into the marker.
