A-5 Cocking Problem

I've got a stock A-5 with 20 oz. tank.

My problem is, the last two times I've played paintball, when I fire my marker, the marker doesn't re-cock completely.  It comes back pretty far, but it doesn't seem to fully "catch" all the way.  It seems like the bolt goes back and stays there, but doesn't get back quite all the way.  I can then pull the cocking handle, and it goes back a very tiny bit, and then it will fire.  This happens with a full tank.

Also, why does it say in my A-5 manual to turn the Co2 tank 3/4 of a turn and then fire all of the gas out when taking out my co2 tank, instead of just untwisting it all the way without firing?

Do you keep it well maintained?

And its to discharge the pressure in the valve and air line so that there's no much backpressure to shoot the tank off. I'm pretty sure that A-5's have a small hole drilled in the ASA to vent the gas from the marker when you're taking the tank off.

It's so that when you take off the tank it doesn't shoot off. My friend has a 98 custom and didn't discharge the pressure and when he unscrewed the tank the pressure shot that tank about 20 feet with a loud bang. It hit pavement and the valve on the tank broke.

put simply, for safety reasons.

Lube it every time you clean it?

Store it cocked or un-cocked?

I lube it every time I clean it, and I leave it un-cocked except for one accidental time.  Which spring would be affected?

I was thinking drive spring only to realize that having it be more compressed would aid in re-cocking. Only lower fps.. And one time would not affect it unless it was for quite a while.

Regarding unscrewing the tank:

I don't know about the horror stories (tanks flying in the air), but depressurizing the gun before you fully unscrew the tank will save you on a ton of o-rings which can add up over time and are annoying to replace.
 
The issue of your gun not recocking all of the way has a few more variables in it.  This would either be cause by not enough air in the tank (which you have already covered), a worn down sear, a worn down rear bolt,  or really rough internals.  If you have not polished the inside of your gun, you might want to look at doing that.  Inspect both the sear on the trigger and the rear bolt to see if they are overly worn.

Loosen all the shell screws, retighten 'just snug', as if the shells were plastic.
Specifically the one under the grip frame ;)
 
Cramping them down will do this.
