    Posted: 14 October 2009 at 11:52pm
I Have an old tippmann pro-lite and I currently use 20oz CO2's.  I always wondered if it was possible to use nitro for the pro-lite.  I guess my question is would the gun still work ok if I used nitro on it or would it cause a majore malfunction or cause a drop-off in performance?

It will work just fine as long as the tank is a high-pressure output type.

To avoid confusion down the road, paintball markers use high pressure air (HPA) these days. Fields stopped using nitrogen a while back as it was expensive, and the air we breathe is mostly nitrogen anyway. Paintball guns have never used nitrous.

But yes, there are two general types: high output and low output. The high output tanks usually put out similar to 800 PSI, and the lower output tanks usually do around 450 PSI. Your Tippmann will need a high output tank.

As an aside, don't confuse high output with the PSI rating. Most tanks can hold 3,000 or 4,500 PSI, but this is NOT how much they output.
