Wherever you are today, whatever you're doing, at 11 AM please stop and take a silent minute to think - really think - about what today means. It's not for those of us still serving; it's not some self-serving holiday of recognition, but instead is for all the brothers we've lost on foreign lands and at home. Please think of the price they've paid, and what their sacrifice has given you. Thanks.
They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them.

"Abortion is not "choice" in America. It is forced and the democrats are behind it, with the goal of eugenics at its foundation."
-FreeEnterprise, 21 April 2011. Yup, he actually said that. |

Just got back from doing a vigil at the veterans memorial here, it was cold walking back and forth along the street at right shoulder. The honks from people(I'm assuming veterans) as they drove by made it worth it. Also doing a parade here in about an hour. Thanks guys.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. — Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918) |

This day will always make me stop and think.
I was rather pissed off to see remembrance dishonoured recently. |

High Flight Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace Where never lark, or even eagle flew - And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untresspassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
