DANGER: ALCOHOL INDUCED THREAD
Anyway, in recent discussions with friends, family etc I've been considering my options for the next few years. If I pass my MTELs in the first round, I can student teach in the fall, if not, I have these options: -finish my minor in poli-sci minor and add that to history ed, maybe do school part time and get a job -work somewhere and keep taking my certification tests and keep my student-loan debt low -take my test twice, if I don't pass, reenlist in the USMC reserves -do my student teaching in the fall, USMC if I cant find a job or placement in time My basic ends are: Try to land a teaching job w/o my poli-sci minor try to land a teaching job halfway through the year or start paying down student loans w/ part time work try to pay down student loans while getting my minor go to school until the money situation looks bad, then enlist Yeah, so it's basically school+ poverty+ possibile risk of jobs with likelyhood of boldily harm VS school + contracted job with probable risk of bodily harm Thoughts? Opinions? Hangover cures? |

Not sure if you're talking reserves for both options where you listed USMC, but no prior service active duty enlistees for the Marine corps = about 7 months of waiting to be shipped, unless on the standby list.

well im not sure how your state works, but here in michigan as long as you have more then 90 credit hours of college courses you can sub for any of the public districts. so thats always an option if you dont pass your test right away(or even if you do till a perment option opens up). either way dont get back into the usmc thats a bad bad bad bad bad idea.

Go back in The Corps as an officer, have the crotch pay off your student loan, come back with lots of Medals from one of the sand boxes.

Teach For America? I plan on doing that in between law school and undergrad just so I have a fall back in case I find law isn't for me.

I've got to stop attempting to think when I'm blacked out on a weeknight, considering that all of this will take months to work its way out anyways.
A friend of mine has been talking about doing reserves a lot lately and is trying to get me to do the buddy program, it's tempting since it will be a secure job, and pay for a lot of school, not to mention that I'd get to roll around in the mud and watch stuff blow up. I would not want to be an officer w/o doing enlisted first and I'd do reserves either way. The testing thing is the real problem here, since I could theoretically teach in a state that doesn't require it if I had my degree, but our program is set up so I can't get my degree without it. My current course of action is going to be to keep my grades up, and start getting those tests out of the way, I can figure out the rest as I go, but working out a little more couldn't hurt. |

Bootcamp non-hack, dropped on the first day of 3rd phase. Had a fun time with mono, pneumonia, a yeast infection (didn't know that could grow on male tackle, unpleasant surprise), and cellulitus of the same region. When I wasn't bleeding from my lungs and groin training was pretty cool, I suppose I should factor in how much PI sucks in the summer into my planning.

I figure there will be fewer retards right out of high school and they won't cancel cool events due to black-flag weather. But no, I haven't forgotten the suck factor, I'm sure I'd still end up running up and down from 3rd deck with a seabag on my back, pack on my chest, while carrying my mattress with 80 other idiots trying to go from standing in formation to on line in 40 seconds at least once, and I know it's never going to be just once....
