Sharpton, Obama's link to the streets? This black con-man remmember the Twany Brawley scam, and his racist, yet itself racist rhetoric. This man would not have a job if he did not continue to foster the Black vs White battles. He calls successful blacks or conservative blacks, 'Uncle Tom's' and then praises the more dependant blacks as the role models of the movement. He has no reason to 'solve' the issue for that would mean he falls from his position of power to just another citizen.
I can't believe that Sharpton's past does not figure into the current Obama equation in some means, manner or form. |

I disregarded the article when I saw the title-
The entire article is according to someone who claims to have been Obama's mentor. It doesn't get any more "he said" than that.

It will be interesting to see what the President's response is to this. (If there is one.) To give President Obama credit he is on record as having said that many of the problems in the African American community are brought upon by themselves. (If I remember right, I think he specifically mentioned the need for more responsibility among the males in their approach to fatherhood.) Since the President has also distanced himself from "mentors" in the past (Rev. Wright) it would not be unexpected for him to do so again. The telling part will be the time it takes and the manner in which it is done.

Maybe I'm missing the Big Deal factor on this one, but who cares?

^^^ OS cares. fe probably does too. A lot of other people on both sides of the political spectrum might as well.
The simple fact is that as a politician in a position of power, the President is judged on a daily basis. The wiser among those who are led (the citizens of the US in this case) tend to want to know the character of their leaders. Since most politicians wouldn't tell the truth if asked; the best way to understand those leaders is to judge them by their actions, associations and response to issues/problems/challenges. |
